It was not the eventual outcome: a later report said he was found dead. During the search, heatstroke was raised as a possibility by his friend Professor Barry Marshall, but that was speculation, not a medical finding.
What was known while the search was underway
Mosley, a British doctor, author and television presenter, was reported missing after setting out for a walk on Symi. According to PerthNow’s initial report, his wife, Dr Clare Bailey, raised the alarm when he did not return by 7:30 p.m. Local authorities traced his route overnight, and a missing-person report was filed at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Police feared at the time that Mosley might have slipped, tripped or fallen while walking alone in hot weather. The initial PerthNow summary reported 36C (97F); this was a concern during an active search, not a confirmed account of what happened.
Why heatstroke was mentioned
Professor Barry Marshall, a scientist and friend of Mosley, voiced concern that heat might be involved. The Nightly reported on 7 June 2024 that Marshall said, “It could explain why he suddenly disappeared,” referring to the possibility of heatstroke. This was his contemporaneous speculation about a friend’s disappearance, not a diagnosis or an official finding.

The reports differ on the temperature: the initial PerthNow summary and The Nightly gave 36C, while a later PerthNow account described the Wednesday walk as taking place in 37C weather. Those figures belong to their respective reports; they should not be treated as a single verified measurement or evidence of a medical cause.
What later reporting said happened
PerthNow later reported that Mosley was found dead on Sunday. Its account, citing police accounts, said he left St Nicholas beach at about 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, appeared on CCTV in Pedi at about 2 p.m. heading toward the mountains, and died at around 4 p.m. These times are the chronology reported by PerthNow, not independently established here.

The same later report said an initial post-mortem indicated natural causes and quoted a police spokesperson saying the findings did not suggest suspicious circumstances. That is an account of preliminary findings; it should not be mistaken for a final coroner’s determination.

The early story captured uncertainty during the search: Mosley had not returned from a walk, and authorities feared he could have fallen. The later account reported his death and preliminary findings. The material available in these reports does not include a final coroner record, so it does not establish a definitive cause of death. The two stages should be read in that order: the search initially had produced no result; later reporting gave the outcome.
