On June 25, 2024, Guy Beahm, the streamer known as Dr. Disrespect, acknowledged that he exchanged Twitch Whisper messages with a minor in 2017. He described them as casual and mutual, but said they sometimes veered into inappropriate territory. Separate reporting linked those messages to Twitch’s 2020 ban and included a more serious allegation about their content; those reports are not judicial findings.
What Dr. Disrespect said
In a public statement on June 25, 2024, Beahm said the messages were sent through Twitch’s Whisper feature in 2017. He characterized them as “casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate.” The quotation is Beahm’s description of the exchanges, not an independently verified account of the private messages.
Beahm also said he had committed no criminal conduct, that no pictures were shared, and that he never met the individual. Those points are claims in his statement; the reviewed coverage does not independently establish them. He wrote, “No criminal charges have ever been brought against me.” That, too, is his statement rather than a finding about what happened in the conversations. The Washington Post and Game Informer reproduced or reported on his statement.
What reporting said about Twitch’s ban
Twitch banned Beahm in 2020. In 2024, reporting by Bloomberg and The Verge, summarized in contemporaneous coverage, connected the ban to the messages, citing sources familiar with Twitch’s investigation. Twitch’s own public explanation for the ban is not included in the reviewed coverage, so the connection should be described as reported rather than as an official public account from the platform. The Washington Post’s June 25 report covered the admission and the reporting around the ban.

A separate allegation about the messages
On June 27, 2024, Rolling Stone reported that a former Twitch trust-and-safety employee said Beahm continued sexually graphic messaging after learning that the recipient was underage. This is an allegation attributed to that former employee and Rolling Stone’s reporting. It is more specific and serious than Beahm’s public characterization, and it should not be treated as a court finding or merged with his account as though the two descriptions were the same.
The reviewed articles do not publish the private message record or a complete official Twitch decision record. They do not establish the recipient’s exact age or provide a complete, independently verified account of the messages’ contents.

What happened after Beahm’s statement
Midnight Society, the game studio Beahm co-founded, ended its relationship with him on June 25, 2024. Co-founder Robert Bowling explained the decision publicly, saying: “If you inappropriately message a minor, I cannot work with you.” Game Informer reported Bowling’s response; Game Developer also covered the admission and studio action.
Beahm said he went through arbitration over a civil dispute with Twitch and that it ended in a settlement. The reviewed coverage does not include the arbitration record or enough detail to independently characterize the proceedings or settlement.
