PerthNow reported on 21 October 2024 that a group of close to 100 young women dressed as Ronald McDonald entered a McDonald’s in Ashburton, Victoria, and danced in the service area. The outlet described it as what was believed to be a sorority prank, but did not identify or confirm an organizing group.
What happened at the Ashburton McDonald’s?
According to PerthNow’s report, the group ran across a road before entering the restaurant over the weekend before the article was published. The women wore clown outfits associated with Ronald McDonald, including white face paint and oversized red smiles. They danced in the service area; some participants reportedly went behind the counter to pose for photos or speak with staff.
PerthNow estimated the group at close to 100 people. That is the outlet’s approximation, not a verified headcount. The report said the costumes were reportedly bought from eBay, but did not identify a seller or a specific costume.
Was it a sorority prank?
PerthNow framed the event as “what’s believed to be a sorority prank.” The report did not name a sorority or confirm that one organized the gathering, so the label remains unverified. It also does not establish whether McDonald’s or authorities followed up.

This is an informal comment from one worker, not an official McDonald’s statement or evidence of how other staff felt.
