YouTube says it scans all livestreams for matches to third-party content, but it does not say that it separately scans every playlist item before that item plays. The distinction matters: the documented check is of the live broadcast, not a confirmed advance review of the playlist queue.
What YouTube says it scans
YouTube Help states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If YouTube identifies third-party content and it remains in the broadcast, the livestream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams
This applies to a 24/7 livestream as it is broadcast. The published guidance does not describe a separate mechanism that checks every video in a playlist before playback. That omission does not prove YouTube never performs additional internal checks; it means a playlist-by-playlist pre-scan is not established by the public documentation.
How the different checks fit together
| Mechanism | What is checked | When | Who it applies to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Livestream scanning | The outgoing live broadcast for matches to third-party content | During the livestream; YouTube does not state the matching cadence or technical method in the cited guidance | All livestreams, according to YouTube Help |
| Upload Content ID scanning | Uploaded videos against audio and visual reference files submitted by copyright owners | When a video is uploaded | Uploaded videos; this is not described as a pre-playback scan of every playlist item in a livestream |
| Claims on archived livestreams | The archived stream for Content ID claims | After the livestream ends, if the creator archives it | Archived livestreams |
| Live Content ID matching | One live stream compared with other live streams | During live broadcasts | Certain Content Manager partners, not a general playlist-owner scan tool |
| Playlist Community Guidelines review | A playlist as a collection of videos for potential Community Guidelines violations | Not specified in the cited playlist policy | Playlist policy; it does not describe copyright matching of each queued item before livestream playback |

What this means for a 24/7 playlist stream
- Do not assume a video is safe to play live merely because it is already in a playlist or was previously uploaded.
- YouTube’s live scan can identify third-party content in the broadcast. If that content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated.
- If you archive the stream, YouTube says Content ID claims are made after the livestream ends. An uninterrupted broadcast is therefore not proof that the archived video will have no claim.
- The public guidance does not specify how frequently matching occurs or whether there are additional checks behind the scenes, so avoid relying on an assumed scan schedule.
If you have permission to use the content
A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption: YouTube says a rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. If you have permission and a stream is still interrupted, check whether the relevant rights owner has allowlisted your channel and contact them if needed. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams
What the specialized live matching feature does—and does not do
YouTube’s live Content ID matching feature is available only to certain Content Manager partners. It compares one live stream with other live streams; it is not evidence that an ordinary channel owner can request an advance copyright scan of every video queued in a playlist. Keep a 24/7 stream running without keeping a computer on
If your goal is to play your own uploaded recordings continuously, StreamNeo runs a YouTube stream from the cloud: upload a recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It does not assess whether you have copyright rights to the videos, and cloud streaming does not bypass YouTube’s copyright checks.
