Twitch has shown a recurring March dip in daily hours watched in several years of third-party reporting—but March does not reliably have fewer total viewing hours than February. The month has more days, and recent comparisons show that total hours and average viewers can move in opposite directions.
What the March figures actually show
StreamElements and Rainmaker.gg reporting points to a recurring decline in daily Twitch viewing during March in the 2022–2025 period. GamesBeat reported that March 2025 was the fourth consecutive year in which viewership was lower than in preceding months. The clearest like-for-like figure in that report is daily hours watched: about 54 million in March 2025, compared with 57 million in both January and February. GamesBeat’s 2025 report described the pattern.
That does not mean March always has a lower monthly total than February. In 2025, Twitch recorded about 1.68 billion total hours watched in March, compared with 1.59 billion in February. The higher total was likely due to March having 31 days and February 28, rather than to a stronger average day.
Why monthly totals can disguise a slowdown
Total monthly hours add viewing across every day in a month. A longer month can therefore accumulate more hours even when viewing on a typical day is lower. Daily hours watched and average concurrent viewers help answer a different question: how much viewing, or how many viewers, were present at a given time on an average basis.

The 2024 figures illustrate why the comparison month matters. Rainmaker.gg figures reported by GamesBeat put Twitch at 1.777 billion total hours watched in March, below January’s 1.902 billion but above February’s 1.738 billion. March was weaker than January by this measure, but not weaker than February. GamesBeat’s 2024 report gives those monthly totals.
What happened in March 2026
Third-party trackers offer a further qualification. SullyGnome’s all-language snapshot displayed approximately 1.5 billion total Twitch hours watched in March 2026, up 5.4% from February, while average viewers were approximately 2.0 million, down 4.8%. Those are rounded figures from its March 2026 statistics.

Streams Charts separately reported that watch hours rose 5.68% from February to March 2026, attributing much of the increase to the difference in calendar days. Its March 2026 analysis reinforces the distinction: a larger monthly total can coexist with a decline in average viewers.
Does Twitch viewership always drop in March?
No. The evidence supports a recurring tendency in selected measures, especially daily hours watched in the years covered by StreamElements/Rainmaker.gg reporting, not a universal decline across every metric every March. Monthly total hours may rise simply because March is longer than February; average viewers can fall even as that total rises.

Comparisons are most meaningful when they specify the metric, the months being compared, and the dataset’s scope. For instance, SullyGnome’s long-term historical page is filtered to English channels, while the March 2026 snapshot above covers all languages. Those series should not be treated as interchangeable. The comparisons establish a pattern, not its cause. Seasonality may be one influence, but the available figures do not isolate a calendar effect or prove why daily viewing changes. Major esports events and other shifts in programming can alter a month’s results. Or Perry, StreamElements CEO, cautioned that month-to-month figures can be shaped by events and time of year: “Understanding the streaming landscape goes beyond just watching numbers rise and fall. On Twitch, things like major esports events and the time of year can make certain months look stronger or weaker on paper. If you’re not familiar with these contributing factors, it’s easy to misread what a peak or dip really means for the platform.”

How to read a Twitch March comparison
- Check the metric: distinguish total monthly hours from daily hours watched and average concurrent viewers.
- Check the baseline: a March comparison with February can tell a different story from one with January or the same month in another year.
- Account for month length: March has 31 days; February has 28 in ordinary years and 29 in leap years.
- Check the scope: confirm whether a tracker covers all languages or a filtered set such as English channels.
- Keep sources separate: independent trackers may use different scopes and methods, so their rounded totals are not necessarily one harmonized series.
