They also do not verify a direct Neymar mention. So the evidence supports a cautious answer—not the claim that the manga definitively references both players.
What the available sources establish
- Blue Lock is a striker-focused manga written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura, serialized in Weekly Shōnen Magazine, according to the official comics page.
- The official anime synopsis describes a project to select one world-class striker from 300 high-school-age forwards, with Japan’s World Cup ambitions as its goal. It introduces Yoichi Isagi after he passes rather than shoots in a consequential match.
- The fan-maintained chapter 1 reference lists Cristiano Ronaldo as mentioned in that chapter. It dates “Dream” (夢), volume 1, chapter 1, to August 1, 2018. This is a secondary listing, not an official transcript or a verified quotation.
Is Neymar named in the manga?
The official materials reviewed here do not establish a direct Neymar mention. A character’s appearance, playing style, or resemblance to a real footballer—and fan comparisons made about it—cannot by itself prove that the manga names or references that player. Without checking the relevant licensed pages, a claim that Neymar is directly referenced would go beyond what these sources confirm.

How to check the opening chapter
Kodansha’s Bilingual Edition Deluxe Blue Lock 1 is a primary source for the scene: its listing says the volume contains chapters 1–4 and credits Kaneshiro, Nomura, and translator Nate Dar. The edition presents the original Japanese outside the panels and the English translation in speech bubbles. Check the relevant page in the edition you are using before quoting dialogue or giving a panel location; wording and placement should be tied to that edition.
Kodansha lists the print edition’s release date as September 19, 2025. That listing identifies a useful edition to consult, but it does not itself confirm the Ronaldo wording or a Neymar reference.

Why the distinction matters
The opening premise makes real-world football comparisons natural: the story is about the making of an ambitious striker. But a thematic resemblance is different from a named reference in the text. On the sources available, Ronaldo has a reported chapter-one mention in a fan-maintained guide; Neymar does not have a verified direct mention. Neither player should be assigned invented dialogue, and the exact Ronaldo passage should not be quoted without checking the licensed chapter.
