That is the Season 1 score, not the current score for the series as a whole. Rotten Tomatoes listed the series at 95% and Season 2 at 94%; its scores and review counts can change.
What does Severance’s 97% Rotten Tomatoes score mean?
Rotten Tomatoes’ 97% is the Season 1 Tomatometer score. The Tomatometer reflects the share of critic reviews counted as positive; it is not a rating out of 100 for how much every critic liked the show. Rotten Tomatoes also displayed an audience score, called the Popcornmeter, which is a separate measure based on audience ratings.

What is Severance about?
In Apple’s description, Mark Scout leads a team at Lumon Industries whose employees have undergone a procedure that surgically separates their work memories from their personal memories. The result is a stark divide between the person at work and the person outside it. When Mark becomes caught up in a mystery, the company’s experiment in “work-life balance” comes under question. Apple describes the series as a thriller and mystery, starring Adam Scott, Britt Lower, and Patricia Arquette. Apple TV’s show page
Adam Scott has described the inside version of Mark as a distinct character with a limited experience of the world outside work. In a Rotten Tomatoes interview, Scott said that this “innie” has circumstances and familiar spaces of his own, and is doing work in a place he does not understand. Scott also called the inside self “like two years old,” contrasting that character’s experience with Mark’s life outside Lumon; it is a character description, not a clinical claim.
