Spoilers for Moana 2. Yes: Moana is a demigod by the film’s ending. But that change in status is clearer than any new ability list—the film does not establish a full catalogue of powers or explain their limits. Her role as a leader and wayfinder remains central to the story.
Does Moana become a demigod in Moana 2?
Yes. Filmmaker coverage identifies Moana as a demigod at the end of the sequel. That is the story’s confirmed change in her status; it does not, by itself, tell us exactly what she can do afterward. [c005]
Disney frames Moana’s journey as a mission from her ancestors: she must venture into dangerous waters, break a curse, and reconnect the people of Oceania. The lost island of Motufetū is central to that mission. [c001] [c002]
What powers does Moana get?
The official material reviewed establishes her demigod status, but does not provide a detailed list of new, repeatable abilities or define their limits. A brief visual moment at the ending is not enough to establish a complete power set. Claims that Moana gains a particular named ability, immortality, or invulnerability go beyond what these sources confirm. [c005]

Her identity as a wayfinder and leader remains important. Director Jared Bush describes the sequel as a new chapter in which Moana is called by her ancestors to save her people and reconnect Pacific peoples; he also says she redefines herself again. [c004]
How Moana’s confirmed status compares with Maui’s powers
Disney’s character feature calls Maui a demigod and explicitly says he uses his magical hook to transform into animals. The reviewed official descriptions do not offer an equivalent list of abilities for Moana after her transformation. So the grounded comparison is limited: her new demigod status is confirmed, while Maui’s hook-based animal shapeshifting is specifically described. [c002] [c005]

Why Motufetū matters to Moana’s transformation
In the film’s fictional premise, Motufetū is an imagined meeting point where wayfinders from different islands could gather and learn together. A god opposed to human connection sinks and curses the island. The production notes say the story drew inspiration from old Pacific stories about navigators meeting across islands; this is inspiration for the film’s storytelling, not evidence that its fantasy events recount a specific traditional legend. Disney also says its Oceanic Cultural Trust included experts in anthropology, linguistics, wayfinding, choreography, and other advisory areas. That production context does not establish Moana’s fantasy powers as traditional beliefs. [c009]
