LiveReacting says it can encode uploaded files that do not meet its recommended settings, while its plans and project settings determine the stream output. Its public guidance does not specify how a playlist containing, for example, 720p and 1080p clips is scaled, cropped, or normalized when playback switches between them. If consistent quality across those transitions is essential, confirm the behavior with LiveReacting before relying on it.
What “quality” means in a mixed-resolution stream
Three different stages matter, and they should not be treated as interchangeable:
- Source resolution: the dimensions of each video file you upload. A playlist might contain a 1280Ă—720 clip and a 1920Ă—1080 clip.
- Stream output: the resolution and frame rate LiveReacting sends to YouTube. The selected output depends on the applicable plan and project settings.
- YouTube viewing renditions: the playback options YouTube makes available after receiving the feed. YouTube’s stream diagnostics describe the incoming feed; they do not disclose how LiveReacting processes each source clip.
Choosing a higher stream output does not add detail that is absent from a lower-resolution source. Conversely, an output setting alone does not establish whether LiveReacting upscales, downscales, crops, or pads an individual clip.
What LiveReacting’s documentation does—and does not—establish
LiveReacting lists supported upload formats and recommends H.264 video with AAC audio. It says files outside its recommended settings may still be uploaded and encoded, but that general encoding capability is not a promise that a mixed-resolution playlist will retain each file’s native dimensions or look equally detailed from one clip to the next. Its published guidance does not explain the exact handling of differently sized clips or guarantee consistent transitions. LiveReacting Help Center

LiveReacting’s pricing information describes output quality by plan, with 720p on some tiers and 1080p, plus optional 4K and 60 FPS upgrades, on others. Plan details can change; check the current plan and studio settings rather than assuming a particular output is included. LiveReacting pricing
LiveReacting also lets users set a custom stream video bitrate or leave it on Auto, which selects a rate based on project settings. Its YouTube settings guidance recommends 128 Kbps audio unless you know the destination supports a higher input rate. These settings describe the outgoing stream configuration, not a guarantee about the quality of each uploaded clip. LiveReacting YouTube settings help

Check the source files and output before going live
Review resolution, frame rate, and bitrate
LiveReacting publishes these recommended maximum video bitrates by resolution and frame rate. They are vendor recommendations, not independent measurements or guarantees of delivered viewer quality; the retrieved settings excerpt said it had been updated seven months before retrieval and did not show a calendar update date.
| Source format | LiveReacting recommended maximum video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p (1280Ă—720) at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p (1280Ă—720) at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p (1920Ă—1080) at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p (1920Ă—1080) at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
| 4K (3840Ă—2160) at 30 fps | 30 Mbps |
| 4K (3840Ă—2160) at 60 fps | 35 Mbps |
Compare each file’s codec, frame rate, aspect ratio, and bitrate with LiveReacting’s current recommended settings. The service says out-of-recommendation files may still be encoded, but the guidance does not say how every unusual combination or mixed-resolution playlist will look. Choose one stream format for the broadcast
A LiveReacting format article dated January 13, 2020 gives examples of landscape at 1280Ă—720, square at 720Ă—720, and portrait at 720Ă—1280, and says resolution cannot be changed during a live broadcast. Because that guidance is dated, verify the available format controls in the current studio before starting. LiveReacting formats help
Pick an output that suits the strongest source material and intended viewing format. A higher output can be appropriate for higher-resolution clips, but it cannot restore detail in a lower-resolution one. The documentation does not establish how the service fits mismatched aspect ratios, so check any portrait, square, or landscape clips especially carefully.

Run a controlled YouTube test
- Set the project output resolution and frame rate, then confirm the current plan supports the selection.
- Use a private or otherwise controlled YouTube test and include representative clips from the playlist, especially the lowest- and highest-resolution files.
- After the feed starts, review YouTube’s live health indicators for issues such as unsupported or suboptimal resolution, insufficient video output, or a mismatch between primary and backup streams. These checks assess the incoming feed; they do not reveal LiveReacting’s internal handling of each source file. YouTube live encoder settings and health diagnostics
- Watch the actual transitions and playback on YouTube. If the result does not meet your requirements, adjust the source files or project settings and test again before scheduling a public broadcast.
Ask LiveReacting the unresolved question directly
If native detail or uniform transitions are a requirement, ask about the exact playlist mix rather than asking only whether the service supports HD. For example:
“If my playlist contains 720p and 1080p clips, what resolution does the stream send to YouTube, how is each clip scaled or cropped, and does the service guarantee consistent transitions?”
