Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife, Kayla, announced on November 7, 2025, that their daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia, had died on October 26. The couple did not disclose a cause of death and asked for privacy as they grieved.
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife, Kayla, announced on November 7, 2025, that their daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia, had died on October 26. The couple described Sterling as their “beautiful daughter,” expressed their enduring love for her, and said they were carrying her in their hearts.
The family did not disclose a cause of death. Public reporting also does not establish a specific medical circumstance, and the couple’s thanks to Cedars-Sinai and its medical staff should not be interpreted as an explanation of what happened.
What Alex and Kayla Vesia shared
In their joint announcement, Alex and Kayla thanked the Dodgers organization for its support, as well as the Toronto Blue Jays, baseball fans, and the Cedars-Sinai medical staff who cared for Kayla and Sterling. Their statement focused on love and remembrance rather than medical details.

The announcement came after the Dodgers said on October 23 and 24 that Vesia was away from the team while he and Kayla dealt with a “deeply personal family matter.” The club did not provide further details at that time and said the family’s privacy should be respected.
Why Vesia was absent from the 2025 World Series
Vesia was not included on the Dodgers’ World Series roster. The timing of the roster decision followed the family matter the club had announced, but neither the Dodgers nor the family publicly described the medical circumstances surrounding Sterling’s death.
During the November 2025 World Series, Dodgers and Blue Jays players honored Vesia by wearing his No. 51 on their caps. The gesture offered a public sign of support while keeping the attention on the family’s loss rather than speculation about it.

Vesia spoke publicly again in February 2026
At Dodgers spring training on February 13, 2026, Vesia made his first public comments since the announcement. He read a prepared statement, thanked the baseball community, described the family’s continuing grief, and asked people to respect the parts of their experience they had chosen to keep private.
Vesia said he and Kayla had begun therapy and encouraged people facing similar struggles to speak with someone and seek help. Those comments reflect the couple’s personal experience; they are not a guarantee that therapy, baseball, or any single form of support resolves bereavement.
Vesia returned to spring action on February 24. MLB coverage described support from the crowd and his teammates, while noting that he and Kayla continued to carry Sterling’s memory with them.

A personal tribute to Sterling Sol
During his season debut from March 27 to 29, 2026, Vesia used a customized dark-pink glove bearing Sterling’s name and birth date, along with a “K” honoring Kayla. The glove was a personal memorial, not a commercial product or an invitation to reproduce the family’s tribute.
Reports also said Kayla objected when fans placed Sterling’s name on custom jerseys. That response is an important reason to avoid unofficial merchandise, product promotion, or treating the child’s name as a branding opportunity.

What remains unknown
The cause of Sterling’s death was not disclosed in the family’s announcement or the official and reputable reports reviewed for this story. It would therefore be inaccurate to describe the loss as a stillbirth, attribute it to a particular condition, or identify a medical complication without a later statement from the family or another primary source.

Readers affected by pregnancy or newborn loss may wish to consult a licensed clinician, a local bereavement program, or an established pregnancy-loss support organization. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists points readers toward support groups and organizations such as Share Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support. These resources are general information and are not presented as endorsements by the Vesia family.
Optional reading and journaling resource
For readers looking for a physical journaling resource, The Pregnancy and Baby Loss Guided Journal by Rachel Rabinor is a topic-specific option. New Harbinger describes the 184-page paperback as including reflection prompts, writing and meditative practices, and affirmations for people processing miscarriage, stillbirth, or other reproductive loss. It is not a substitute for professional care, and there is no indication that Alex or Kayla Vesia used or endorsed it.

Vesia’s absence from the Dodgers, the No. 51 caps, his return to spring action, and the customized glove all show different ways the baseball community supported him. None of those moments explains or resolves the family’s grief. The clearest account remains the one Alex and Kayla chose to share: Sterling Sol was their daughter, she died on October 26, and they continue to remember her while asking for privacy.
The Bottom Line
Alex Vesia and Kayla announced on November 7, 2025, that their daughter Sterling Sol had died on October 26. The cause of death has not been disclosed. The Dodgers and the wider baseball community supported Vesia, who began returning to baseball in 2026 while honoring Sterling’s memory and asking for privacy.
