In an archival Scroll.in interview published ahead of Mirzapur’s online premiere, actor Divyendu Sharma reflects on his early work, the feature-film debut that brought him wider notice, and his role in the series. The interview offers a brief glimpse of the path from assisting an editor to playing Liquid in Pyaar Ka Punchnama.
How Divyendu Sharma began working in film
Before his feature-film debut, Sharma assisted a friend who worked as an editor. In the Scroll.in interview, he explains that his FTII education gave him technical knowledge he could put to use in that job: “I used to assist a friend who was an editor. Despite graduating from FTII, I knew the technical stuff, so I worked as this editor’s assistant.”

‘Then came Pyaar Ka Punchnama’
The interview describes Pyaar Ka Punchnama as Sharma’s feature-film debut. Released in 2011 and directed by Luv Ranjan, the film featured him as Liquid. Scroll.in’s transition into this part of his career is simple: “Then came ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’.”
From Liquid to Mirzapur
Scroll.in spoke with Sharma before the online premiere of Mirzapur. The conversation looked back at career highlights and asked about his role in the series, placing that work alongside the earlier milestone of Pyaar Ka Punchnama. The available interview excerpt does not provide further details about his character or his comments on the role, so it cannot support a fuller account of his performance or the series’ production.
