Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl was Discogs’ Global Album of the Year for 2025, while The Beatles took Global Artist of the Year. These are Discogs platform awards—not a ranking of total vinyl sales worldwide. The Year in Review draws on collection additions, cataloguing and Marketplace activity, so it reflects what Discogs users collected, searched and documented.
Which vinyl albums were most popular on Discogs in 2025?
Discogs announced these global Year in Review winners on December 15, 2025. Its announcement names one Global Album of the Year rather than publishing a complete ranked list of the most popular albums.
| Category | 2025 winner |
|---|---|
| Global Artist of the Year | The Beatles |
| Global Album of the Year | Taylor Swift, The Life of a Showgirl |
| Reissue of the Year | Frank Ocean, Channel Orange |
| 7-Inch of the Year | Taylor Swift, “Fortnight” |
| Label of the Year | Columbia |
The results come from Discogs’ 2025 Year in Review announcement. The platform says it considers collection statistics, discography data and Marketplace insights: what users added to their shelves, searched for in the Marketplace and catalogued. Its nine regions are USA and Canada; Latin America; UK and Ireland; Western Europe; Eastern Europe; Nordic Countries; Middle East and Africa; East and Southeast Asia; and Australia and New Zealand.
What the regional observations show
Discogs says regional tastes differed, but its accessible announcement offers selected examples rather than a full regional winner table. It does not establish every regional placement, so the examples below should not be read as complete rankings.

#1 Best Overall
- Bluey - Bluey the Album - 5th Birthday Zoetrope Edition - Vinyl LP - RSD 2025
- East and Southeast Asia: The announcement describes collecting interest in classical and jazz artists including Beethoven, Mozart, Miles Davis and John Coltrane, as well as Japanese musician Tatsuro Yamashita.
- Latin America: The Life of a Showgirl did not take the top spot. Discogs highlights Pink Floyd’s At Pompeii MCMLXXII and Chico Buarque’s Dois.
- Nordic Countries: The Taylor Swift album was also not the top title there; Discogs cites The Hellacopters’ Overdriver and Ghost’s Skeletá.
- Several lists: Sleep Token’s Even in Arcadia appeared alongside pop and legacy acts, which the announcement characterizes as unexpected.
What “popular” means on Discogs
Discogs’ awards reflect activity on its own platform, not a general-population survey or an industry-wide count of vinyl units sold. The announcement does not provide a detailed formula for each award, so it would be inaccurate to treat every winner as a simple ownership ranking.
Discogs also offers distinct search sorts. “Most Collected” puts releases owned by the highest number of Discogs users first; “Most Wanted” sorts by Wantlist demand. Ownership and wantlist interest are different signals. Neither should be conflated with completed Marketplace purchases or retail sales. Discogs explains these distinctions in its database search guide.
For a retail-sales comparison, use a chart or industry body that reports unit sales and check its geography, period and format definitions. Discogs’ announcement does not claim its awards measure those sales.

Why a vinyl album can have multiple Discogs entries
Discogs catalogs releases, including individual pressings, rather than treating every edition of an album as interchangeable. A release page can distinguish details such as pressing year, tracklisting and unique identifiers. That matters when looking up a record: a result for an album title may refer to a different pressing than the copy someone owns or wants.

Its support guide says low, median and high values are calculated from the 30 most recent sales for that particular release; logged-in users can view the latest sales history. Those figures concern a specific pressing and are not evidence of the Year in Review’s popularity ranking. See the guide to determining a collection’s value.
What the Year in Review does not tell you
The published announcement gives named global award winners and selected regional observations, but not a complete ranked album list by region or a detailed explanation of how each award was calculated. It also does not establish that the winners led retail unit sales. The soundest reading is therefore narrow: these are Discogs’ 2025 platform awards, based on multiple kinds of user and Marketplace activity.
