No verdict was reached on June 30, 2025, the first day of jury deliberations in Sean “Diddy” Combs’s federal trial. Jurors sent a note about a fellow juror’s ability to follow the court’s instructions, later asked for clarification about drug distribution, and ended the day saying they were making progress. The partial verdict came later, not on day one.
What happened on the first day of deliberations?
After a seven-week federal trial, the 12-person jury—eight men and four women—began deliberating Monday, June 30, 2025. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian had given jurors 61 pages of instructions on the law.
The jury raised a concern about a juror
About an hour into deliberations, the foreperson sent the judge a note: “We are concerned (the juror) cannot follow your honor’s instructions,” according to The Associated Press. The report did not identify the juror or describe the substance of any private deliberations.
Around 2 p.m., Subramanian reminded the jury to deliberate and follow his instructions on the law. Defense lawyer Marc Agnifilo said of asking the foreperson about the concern, “We can always ratchet it up. We can’t ratchet it down.”

Jurors asked about drug distribution
About three hours later, jurors asked for clarification about the instruction on drug distribution, an allegation included in the racketeering-conspiracy charge. The question alone does not show how jurors viewed that count or how far they had progressed.
No verdict by day’s end
Jurors indicated they were making progress, AP reported, but they reached no verdict on June 30. The day’s note and request for clarification were developments during deliberations, not a partial verdict.

What charges were before the jury?
AP reported that Combs faced five counts: one racketeering-conspiracy count, two sex-trafficking counts related to two former girlfriends, and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Combs had pleaded not guilty. AP described the charges as carrying the possibility of life in prison; that is not a count-specific sentence estimate.
Over seven weeks, 34 witnesses testified, AP reported. Among them were Cassie, the R&B singer born Casandra Ventura, and Jane, who testified under a pseudonym. Jurors also saw security-camera video of Combs beating, kicking, and dragging Ventura at a Los Angeles hotel in 2016, according to AP. The charges, testimony, and evidence were part of the trial; they should not be confused with a jury finding.

How did the lawyers frame the case?
In closing arguments, Assistant U.S. Attorney Christy Slavik told jurors, “The defendant used power, violence and fear to get what he wanted.” Defense lawyer Marc Agnifilo argued, “This isn’t about crime. It’s about money.” These were opposing arguments by counsel, not findings by the judge or jury.
