50 Cent and Sean “Diddy” Combs did not begin with one definitive public falling-out. Their relationship moved from reported early industry contact to a highly public diss-track episode, periods of collaboration, business rivalry and years of commentary. The newest chapter is a Netflix documentary executive-produced by 50 Cent—an important perspective to keep in mind when assessing the series.

How did 50 Cent and Diddy’s feud start?

The origins are disputed and pieced together from public records and later recollections, not a single confirmed incident. The Independent reports that Combs presented Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson with the Best Video award at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards. It also recounts Jackson’s later claim that he ghostwrote a verse for Combs on G. Dep’s “Let’s Get It,” placing the work around 2001. Jackson had referred to ghostwriting for “P. Diddy” in his 2003 song “U Not Like Me.” Those details suggest an early professional connection, but the private writing arrangement rests on Jackson’s account, not independent confirmation. (The Independent’s timeline)

Why did the feud become public in 2006?

The reported Mase contract dispute

The Independent traces a major flashpoint to Mase, the rapper who had been signed to Combs’s Bad Boy label and later joined Jackson’s G-Unit. Jackson recalled that Combs wanted $2 million for Mase’s contract and that Jackson judged the price too high. That figure is Jackson’s reported recollection; it should not be treated as a verified transaction or as a complete explanation for the conflict. (The Independent)

“The Bomb” and its allegation

In August 2006, Jackson released “The Bomb,” also known as “Hip-Hop.” The track insinuated that Combs had been involved in the murder of The Notorious B.I.G., also known as Biggie Smalls. That was a diss-track allegation—not established fact or a court finding. The song also mocked the idea that Jackson might be excluded from Combs’s Hamptons parties. (The Independent)

Were 50 Cent and Diddy ever on good terms?

There were public signs of cooperation after the 2006 escalation. In 2007, Combs appeared on a remix of Jackson’s “I Get Money,” and the two shared the stage at Madison Square Garden during the Screamfest tour, according to The Independent. Those moments complicate any account that portrays the relationship as uninterrupted hostility; they do not, by themselves, establish that the underlying tensions were resolved. (The Independent)

What kept the rivalry in public view?

The feud’s later history has included reported artist-contract disputes, competition between their vodka brands and Jackson’s ongoing public commentary about Combs. These factors help explain why the rivalry remained visible, but the available accounts do not establish one definitive motive or show that business competition alone caused their personal animosity. What is 50 Cent’s role in the Netflix documentary?

Sean Combs: The Reckoning is a four-part Netflix series directed by Alexandria Stapleton and executive-produced by Jackson. Netflix describes it as covering Combs’s career, Bad Boy, allegations, the federal investigation, arrest and trial. Jackson’s producer role is essential context: the series is a documentary about their rival, made with one of the feud’s central participants as an executive producer. Its account is not a court record or a neutral judicial finding. (Netflix Tudum)

Netflix Tudum says the series includes footage recorded with Combs’s knowledge during the six days before his arrest. Stapleton told Tudum: “It came to us, we obtained the footage legally and have the necessary rights.” That is the director’s account of how the footage was obtained; it is not an independent legal ruling. Contemporaneous reporting said Combs’s representatives disputed the documentary’s use of footage. (Netflix Tudum’s interview with Stapleton)

How does Combs’s legal case fit into the story?

The legal record should be kept separate from the feud’s lyrics, allegations and documentary framing. In November 2023, Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit alleging abuse; it settled the next day on undisclosed terms. Combs denied the allegations through his attorney. A settlement is not a finding of liability. (Associated Press timeline)

In July 2025, a federal jury convicted Combs on prostitution-related offenses and acquitted him of racketeering and sex-trafficking charges, the Associated Press reported. Those verdicts describe the outcome of that criminal trial; they do not mean every civil allegation was tried or proven in it. (Associated Press report on the verdict)
