The WWE material dated September 25, 2026, concerns a retail replica of the championship’s 1985–1987 design, not a newly presented on-screen belt. The official sources cited here do not establish a separate 2026 television debut.
What WWE has confirmed
WWE reported that Sami Zayn presented a redesigned Intercontinental Title to then-champion Shinsuke Nakamura on the November 22, 2019 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. WWE published its account the following day, describing the championship as having an “all-new look.” That is the documented on-screen redesign relevant to the claim of a new belt: WWE’s report of the 2019 unveiling.
The WWE title-history page traces the championship’s lineage to September 1979 and lists it as ongoing: Intercontinental Championship history. A title’s continuing lineage does not, by itself, mean its belt design has changed.
What the 2026 announcement is about
On September 25, 2026, WWE announced a replica modeled on the Intercontinental Championship design used from 1985 to 1987. The announcement describes a muted, tarnished-gold finish, a debossed red WWE logo, a globe without blue paint, black ribbons with raised lettering, four matching side plates, and a black strap with different tooling. WWE says the replica was measured and modeled from the archival title. These are details of a retail reproduction, not evidence of a new championship presentation on television.

How to distinguish a replica from an on-screen title
| Item | What it is | What WWE’s sources establish |
|---|---|---|
| 2019 redesign | Men’s championship presented on television | Unveiled on SmackDown on November 22, 2019; Sami Zayn presented it to Shinsuke Nakamura. WWE, November 23, 2019. |
| 2026 product | Replica of an archival championship design | Represents the 1985–1987 design and was announced for WWE Shop on September 25, 2026. The announcement does not report a new on-screen belt debut. WWE, September 25, 2026. |
The available WWE report on the 2019 redesign does not provide a full technical specification for that belt, so the archival replica’s features should not be treated as a complete comparison with every later championship design.

Buying an Intercontinental Championship replica
WWE’s announcement points readers to WWE Shop for the archival replica. Availability can change. If considering a listing elsewhere, check who is selling it and whether its authenticity is established; a listing that uses WWE branding or wording is not automatically an official product.
WWE and Amazon reported joint lawsuits against 13 defendants accused of marketing inauthentic WWE championship belt replicas, including Intercontinental designs. WWE described enforcement work to address counterfeit listings. That report is about alleged counterfeit sales and enforcement, not a finding about every belt listing: WWE Corporate’s August 30, 2022 counterfeit report.
