It is not established that Victoria Beckham ruined Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz’s first dance. Reports published in 2025 gave conflicting accounts of whether the couple had already danced before Victoria’s mother-son dance; in January 2026, Brooklyn publicly alleged that his mother hijacked a dance he had planned with Nicola. The sequence and Nicola’s reaction remain disputed.
What happened at the wedding?
Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz married in Palm Beach in April 2022. The reception included a performance by Marc Anthony, according to Us Weekly.
The dispute is about what happened during Anthony’s performance and when. One account describes Victoria’s dance with Brooklyn as interrupting the couple’s planned first dance; another says Brooklyn and Nicola had already danced together and that the mother-son dance came later, during general dancing.
The competing accounts
| Question | People-source account reported by The Independent | Wedding-source account reported by Us Weekly |
|---|---|---|
| Sequence | A source said Anthony called Brooklyn to the stage, then invited Victoria. The report presents this as a source’s account, not an independently verified sequence. | A source said Brooklyn and Nicola had already shared two dances, and that Anthony’s later performance led into general dancing and a mother-son dance. |
| Nicola’s reaction | A source said Nicola left the room crying. The article does not independently establish her reaction. | One source characterized the dance as a fun family moment and said guests did not know Nicola was upset at the time. Us Weekly also reported a separate source’s view that the dance had been a meaningful centerpiece for the couple and that Nicola was upset. |
| How the moment was understood | A second source described the room as shocked, portraying the dance as a startling interruption. | The counter-account framed it as a family dance after the couple’s dances, rather than an interruption of their first dance. |
The Independent’s May 30, 2025 report attributes its account to People sources. One said, “Marc Anthony, who is a friend of the Beckhams, offered to perform as a gift at the wedding.” A separate source said: “It was such a jaw-dropping moment that it left the whole room in absolute shock — you could hear a pin drop.” These are anonymous-source claims, not named eyewitness testimony. The Independent’s report does not settle the sequence against Us Weekly’s counter-account, published the following day.

What Brooklyn and the DJ said later
In January 2026, Brooklyn gave a public account that aligned with the interruption version. As quoted by The Daily Beast, he said: “My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song.” He also said: “She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone.” Those are Brooklyn’s allegations and description of the event.
Wedding DJ Fat Tony told LBC that Brooklyn expected to have his first dance with Nicola. “Brooklyn was devastated as he thought he was about to get his first dance with his wife,” he said. Tony also called the episode awkward for the people in the room: “The whole situation was very awkward for everyone in the room.” His account characterizes the timing and atmosphere; it does not independently resolve the conflicting 2025 reports about whether the couple had already danced. LBC’s report also quoted Tony saying: “The dance is a very small part of a bigger problem.”

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the reports do—and do not—establish
- Established in the reporting: Brooklyn and Nicola married in April 2022, and Marc Anthony performed at the reception, according to Us Weekly.
- Disputed: whether the couple’s first dance had already taken place before Victoria danced with Brooklyn.
- Not independently verified in these reports: the precise sequence, Victoria’s intent, and whether Nicola left crying or was known to be upset by guests at the time.
- Not established: that the dance alone caused the wider family rift. Fat Tony described it as one small part of a bigger problem.
So the most accurate answer is that Brooklyn later said his mother hijacked his planned first dance, while a wedding source gave Us Weekly a different sequence in which the couple had already danced. The accounts do not provide a single independently verified reconstruction of the moment.
