In a report published at 6:39 p.m. on February 7, 2024, PerthNow said fans had gathered outside a hotel with records and merchandise, hoping to get autographs. The outlet reported that Barker emerged, did not acknowledge the group, got into a van and left. PerthNow described its video as showing him in the back of the van with his hood up and looking down. PerthNow’s incident report is the basis for this account.
“Snubs” is PerthNow’s characterization of the interaction. The report gives no explanation from Barker, his representatives or the fans, so it cannot establish his reason for leaving without stopping.
Which hotel was it?
PerthNow’s February 7 incident report does not name the hotel. A separate report said Mark Hoppus met fans outside the Ritz Carlton on February 9; that later account does not establish that Barker left from the same hotel two days earlier. How the departure fits the Perth visit
PerthNow reported that Barker arrived in Perth on Wednesday, February 7, ahead of Blink-182 concerts at RAC Arena on Thursday, February 8, and Friday, February 9. Its arrival story attributed to Barker’s X post the statement that he had not been to Australia in 19 years because of his fear of flying after his 2008 plane crash. That is the context the outlet reported, not an explanation for this specific encounter with fans. PerthNow’s arrival report includes the post and tour timing.
The February 9 report also said Hoppus signed items and chatted with fans outside the Ritz Carlton, while Barker visited a Perth hair salon the previous day and gave staff concert tickets. Those separate encounters do not show why Barker did not stop for the fans described in the February 7 report.
