But “for good” goes further than the available confirmation. Showrunner Elwood Reid has said Velma could return if the series finds the right story, and CBS has not announced that she is permanently gone.
Who replaced Velma on Tracker?
According to secondary reporting surfaced through IMDb’s news aggregation, Reenie Greene hired Mel Day, played by Cassady McClincy Zhang, as a law assistant to take over Velma’s former role. The same reporting says Zhang was promoted to series regular for Season 4. That describes a reported handoff of Velma’s work; it is not an official CBS announcement that the character has been permanently replaced.
Velma Bruin, played by Abby McEnany, was one of two regular cast members absent when Season 3 began. TV Insider reported that the premiere explained Velma was with her wife, Teddi. The episode also explained Bobby’s absence by saying he had taken a new job. Eric Graise played Bobby.
Is Velma gone from the show for good?
That has not been established. TV Insider reported that showrunner Elwood Reid said a return for Velma or Bobby was possible if the writers found a worthwhile storyline; Reid’s reported response was, “Possible? You never know.” The report also said the team had not yet found a story that excited them enough to bring either character back.

That leaves a return open as a possibility, not a promise. The available CBS and Paramount pages establish episode and season information but do not confirm that Velma’s departure is permanent. So the careful answer is: Mel reportedly took over Velma’s former function, while Velma’s future remains unresolved.

The word “officially” suggests a network confirmation, and “for good” suggests a definitive exit. The cited official CBS and Paramount materials do not make either claim about Velma. The role transition and Zhang’s Season 4 promotion come from secondary reporting, while the reported comments from Reid leave room for a return without confirming one.
