Paramount+ identifies “A Dream and a Memory,” which concluded the series on April 6, 2025, as the series finale. The separate prequel project 1944 has been reported as potential or planned—not as a series confirmed by the finale or given a premiere date.
What the finale actually confirms
Paramount+ lists “A Dream and a Memory” as the 1923 series finale and says the second season concluded on April 6, 2025. Its guide also says all episodes are streaming on Paramount+, though availability can vary by country and service terms can change. The official label settles the status of 1923; it does not, by itself, establish a successor series.
There is no cited statement from a named person confirming that the finale was designed to announce or tease another show. Without a specific scene or direct confirmation from the creators or network, treating the ending as a deliberate handoff is interpretation, not established fact.
Is 1944 actually happening?
1944 is the Dutton-family project most directly relevant to the question. The Associated Press reported in September 2023 that Paramount had announced a prequel tentatively called 1944, alongside a sequel then called 2024. That report noted casting had not been announced at the time. In February 2026, the AP described 1944 as a potential future Yellowstone spinoff—not as a series with a confirmed premiere schedule. Those are dated reports, not evidence that the 1923 finale confirmed the project.

A March 2025 Hulu guide also listed 1944 among possible spinoffs, along with The Madison, a Beth-and-Rip series and 6666. That older list is a snapshot, not a reliable current slate. For the distinction between a project being discussed or reported and a series being confirmed for release, the later AP status report is more relevant; neither source says the finale itself announced 1944.
Why another Dutton story seems plausible
1923 is set roughly 40 years after the founding of the Duttons’ Montana cattle ranch, following Jacob and Cara during the Prohibition-era Mountain West. That historical setting gives the franchise room to tell stories from other periods. A prequel such as 1944 would move forward from 1923 while remaining in the family’s past; a sequel would move toward the modern-day world of Yellowstone. But a gap in the timeline is story potential, not confirmation that a particular series is coming.

How much does the finale’s audience figure tell us?
Paramount+ said 1923 drew 14 million global viewers in the first seven days after the season-two finale. That is the company’s own reported figure, published in its April 16, 2025 press release—not an independently audited count. It indicates strong audience interest, but it does not establish that a spinoff was approved, is in production or has a release date.

As of the Associated Press status report in February 2026, 1944 remained a potential future spinoff; that report does not provide a confirmed premiere date. The most accurate answer is therefore that the finale may invite speculation about more Dutton stories, but the available reporting does not show it officially teasing or confirming a new series. Viewers can stream 1923 on Paramount+ according to the service’s guide, subject to regional availability.
