Coca-Cola announced a multi-year partnership with Swift in 2013 and documented advertising, a limited-edition can and fan promotions. Its public announcements do not disclose her compensation or establish that the reported figure was paid.
What Coca-Cola confirmed about the partnership
On January 28, 2013, The Coca-Cola Company announced Swift as an ambassador for Diet Coke initiatives. The company said she would be integrated into key marketing, including television, print and digital advertising for its “Stay Extraordinary” campaign. It did not publish a fee or contract terms in that announcement. Coca-Cola’s January 2013 announcement establishes the partnership, not its price.
Coca-Cola described the relationship as multi-year in an October 15, 2014 release. That release recounted activities including concert-ticket and meet-and-greet opportunities, radio appearances and an advertisement that previewed unreleased music. The company’s description confirms an ongoing campaign relationship, but it does not specify a precise contract duration or payment. The October 2014 campaign release likewise provides no compensation figure.
How Swift appeared in Diet Coke campaigns
| Date | Campaign activity | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| April 11, 2013 | Swift’s first Diet Coke television commercial, “Music that Moves,” focused on her songwriting process and featured “22.” | A television spot connected Diet Coke to her music and public image. Coca-Cola announcement |
| October 2013 | A limited-time, 12-ounce collector-edition Diet Coke can bearing Swift’s image was promoted in stores alongside rewards activity. | A retail activation; the announcement described a historical, limited-time release, not current availability. Coca-Cola announcement |
| February 2013 | A regional Coca-Cola bottler advertised backstage access and chances to win “Silver Tickets” to Swift’s Red Tour. | A fan promotion tied to the partnership. Coca-Cola UNITED post |
| September–October 2014 | The “Get A Taste” campaign tied digital and social content to Swift’s album 1989; a commercial previewed unreleased music. | The brand used music promotion and fan engagement as well as conventional advertising. September announcement; October release |
At the time of the 2013 partnership announcement, Coca-Cola described Swift as having career record sales exceeding 26 million albums and 75 million song downloads worldwide. That was the company’s promotional biographical claim about her music career, not a statement about endorsement income. Coca-Cola, January 2013.

Where the $26 million figure comes from—and what is missing
The figure appears in an undated Taylor Swift fan-site page about Diet Coke, but that page offers no credible supporting citation. The official Coca-Cola announcements reviewed do not state that Swift received $26 million. A contemporaneous TIME profile from November 2014 identified Diet Coke among her sponsorships, but did not report a fee.
Without a disclosed contract, payment record or credible independent reporting that verifies the amount, it is not possible to establish a $26 million payment, explain how such a sum might have been structured, or determine whether it was paid at all. Nor do the public campaign announcements provide sales-lift or return-on-investment figures. The documented activations explain how the partnership was presented to consumers; they cannot prove its financial terms.
