SEGA’s official material confirms that Amy has feelings for Sonic and pursues him, but the sources cited here do not confirm that they are dating or an established couple. In other words, Amy’s crush and romantic subtext are canon; a mutual relationship is not established.
What SEGA’s official sources establish
Amy’s feelings for Sonic
SEGA’s Japanese-language Amy Rose character profile describes her as continuing to chase Sonic and making an effort to win him over. That supports the claim that Amy is interested in Sonic as part of her official portrayal. The profile also describes her as diligently improving herself so Sonic will notice her.
Romantic subtext, not a relationship announcement
In a Japanese-language Sonic & Amy story and retrospective published February 22, 2021, SEGA uses couple-coded humor around an outing and gives Amy a suggestive line about having some of her wishes fulfilled. The retrospective describes Amy’s feelings for Sonic and a bond of trust shaped by their adventures and competition. It also uses playful “lovey-dovey?” framing for them in a game context, while noting Sonic’s less enthusiastic expression.
That material supports romantic teasing and closeness, not a declaration that Sonic and Amy are a couple. The same distinction applies when they team up: being partners in an adventure establishes teamwork, not necessarily romantic reciprocity.

What Yuji Naka’s historical interview says
A third-party page dated September 25, 2010, reproduces an interview with Yuji Naka and credits SEGA of America’s Sonic Central as its source. Asked whether Sonic and Amy would ever get married, Naka is quoted as saying: “Amy will continue to pursue Sonic all the time, but Sonic will not ever get married.” He also says he cannot picture Sonic married or having children.
This is a reproduced historical interview answer, not a current formal SEGA relationship-status announcement. It describes Amy pursuing Sonic and Naka’s view of Sonic’s character; it does not establish that Sonic returns her feelings, nor does it amount to an explicit rule banning every possible romance.
