Salley Carson said her dinner with Craig Conover in New York in early February 2025 was not a date: other people were there. She called them good friends who were growing closer, while leaving open the possibility that their relationship could change. A later Season 11 conversation was a separate moment: Carson said she had feelings for Conover, and he said he saw them as friends.
What Salley Carson said about the dinner
In a February 24, 2025 interview with Bravo’s The Daily Dish, Carson clarified the “date night” talk surrounding her dinner with Conover. “It was not a date, we had other people there with us,” she said. Her account places the outing in New York earlier that month, but does not give an exact date. Bravo’s February 25, 2025 report is the source of her description.
At that point, Carson described their connection as friendship: “Me and Craig are good friends, and we’re becoming even closer friends now.” She also said she was open to seeing whether something might develop. That was her view at the time, not confirmation that they were dating.
What happened later on Southern Charm
The dinner and the later feelings conversation were separate events. In Bravo’s January 14, 2026 coverage of Southern Charm Season 11, Episode 7, Carson told Conover she had feelings for him. Conover said he saw them as friends and, in the After Show, explained: “I don’t like hurting people’s feelings, and I thought I had made it clear.”

Their accounts also conveyed different impressions of how close they had been. Carson described frequent time together, late nights at his house, and FaceTime calls, adding, “We had a lot of chemistry.” Those were Carson’s recollections; Conover’s response was that he understood the relationship as friendship. Bravo’s account of the exchange is available in its January 14, 2026 report.
What the later update does—and doesn’t—establish
On January 26, 2026, Bravo reported that Carson said Conover had been invited to her birthday gathering but was out of town. That detail does not establish a change in their relationship. The cited coverage documents Carson’s account of the 2025 group dinner, the later on-screen conversation, and that birthday invitation; it does not establish their relationship status as of October 8, 2026. Bravo’s birthday-party update reports the invitation.
