What was reported about Pink’s Gold Coast outing?
PerthNow reported on 16 February 2024 that Pink had travelled to the Gold Coast with her family before her first Queensland concert on the Friday night. The article described her visit to a beach with her husband and children and called the encounter with bluebottles a close call. Read PerthNow’s report.
That account does not confirm a sting, treatment, or injury. It also does not establish the exact beach or day of the outing. The reported Queensland concert timing should not be used to infer when or where the beach visit happened.
What to do if a bluebottle stings you
Queensland Health’s 12th edition Primary Clinical Care Manual (2025) says bluebottle stings can cause immediate, intense pain and linear or curved red welts. Nausea, headache, or malaise can occur, but systemic effects are uncommon. Its guidance is general Queensland clinical advice, not information about Pink’s encounter.

- Reassure the person. Keep them calm while you assess the sting.
- Do not apply vinegar. Queensland Health warns, “Do not use vinegar – may increase pain.”
- Remove remaining tentacles. Use a gloved hand or forceps, or wash them away with seawater. Avoid handling tentacles with bare hands.
- Use hot water for pain relief. Immerse the affected area or use a hot shower for 20 minutes. The water should be hot, but not scalding or uncomfortable; test it on an unaffected limb first.
- Seek medical advice when needed. Contact a medical officer or nurse practitioner if pain is not controlled by oral pain relief and hot water, systemic symptoms develop, or you are unsure what caused the sting. Queensland Health says hospital transport or further medical intervention is rarely required for the bluebottle presentation described in the manual.
Queensland Health’s bluebottle-sting guidance includes the full clinical advice. If the species is uncertain—particularly in tropical or subtropical waters—get local lifeguard or medical advice rather than assuming it was a bluebottle.
How to reduce the risk at the beach
Surf Life Saving Queensland describes a bluebottle as an air-filled sac, usually with a long blue fishing tentacle. Its marine-stinger advice is to swim at patrolled beaches under lifesaver or lifeguard supervision during warmer months. Check local beach information and follow lifeguard directions. Separate news: larger bluebottles reported in 2026
In a separate report published on 2 October 2026, ABC Gold Coast said unusually large bluebottles—described as up to three times the usual size—were washing ashore on Gold Coast beaches. The report said scientists knew little about the larger animals’ venom potency and noted 20 reported stings across 39 patrolled beaches during the school holidays. That is a snapshot from the period covered by the report, not a long-term rate, a count for Pink’s beach, or evidence about her 2024 outing. Read ABC Gold Coast’s report.
