There is no confirmed evidence that Nicki Minaj underwent butt-enhancement surgery because a rapper told her to. In a 2022 interview with Joe Budden, Minaj said she had “ass shots” early in her career, but also said she had not had surgery at that time. She described body-focused talk around Lil Wayne’s circle as affecting how she felt about her appearance; her account does not establish that Wayne ordered her to get injections or was the sole cause of her decision.
What Nicki Minaj said about injections and surgery
In her 2022 interview with rapper and media personality Joe Budden, Minaj put the distinction plainly: “At that time, I had never had surgery. I had ass shots.” The statement is a first-person acknowledgment of injections, alongside her claim that she had not had surgery at that point in her career. Contemporary coverage does not identify the substance used or provide medical records or confirmation from a treating clinician.

That wording matters: “butt-enhancement surgery” is not what Minaj confirmed in this account. The available reporting does not establish a Brazilian butt lift, implants, or another operation.
What she said about Lil Wayne’s circle
Minaj connected her feelings about her body to the environment around her early career. She recalled hearing talk about “big booties” among people in Lil Wayne’s studio circle and feeling that she did not match the look she thought rap culture expected. In a fuller account, she initially said people around her had not pressured her, then recalled joking comments from Wayne or others and explained that jokes could still affect someone in the room.

#1 Best Overall
- The most successful female rapper of all time, Nicki Minaj, celebrates the 10th anniversary of her landmark album, Pink Friday, with this 2 LP pressed on pink vinyl
She said: “Even if they’re joking, they don’t know that the person that is there in that room with them is not finding it funny.” This describes her reported experience of social influence and body-image pressure. It does not show that Wayne or another rapper directly instructed her to get injections, nor does it prove that those comments alone caused her decision.
What is and is not established
- Minaj’s own account: She said she had “ass shots” early in her career and had not had surgery at that time.
- Reported influence: She said body-focused talk and examples around Wayne’s circle shaped how she felt about her appearance.
- Not established: The account does not confirm a specific operation, identify the injection substance, or establish a direct order or sole cause.
How later claims should be read
In 2026, IBTimes UK reported a $155,000 estimate from plastic surgeon David Shokrian, based on procedures he thought Minaj might have had. It is a third-party hypothetical estimate—not a documented bill, confirmed spending, or verified medical history. The report says Minaj did not confirm all of the procedures included in that speculation, and cites no medical records or invoices.

- Nicki Minaj released her fifth studio album, Pink Friday 2, in December 2023
Earlier, in a 2011 Seventeen interview, Minaj was asked whether her butt was real and whether she received injections. She said the questions did not bother her and that her body did not define her. That interview records the questions she faced; it does not establish that she had a procedure.
