No. Netflix’s weekly English-language TV chart placed Vladimir at No. 4 for the week of March 2, 2026, with 4.2 million views—not No. 3. The “underwhelming reviews” description also needs context: dated reports show a mixed reception, not a universal critical pan.
What was Vladimir’s Netflix ranking?
Netflix’s weekly report for March 2–8, 2026, ranked Vladimir No. 4 on its English-language TV list and reported 4.2 million views. That is a specific weekly chart position, not an all-time ranking or a claim about where the series stands now. Netflix’s weekly Top 10 report describes the series as a new dark dramedy led by Rachel Weisz.

The No. 3 claim in the headline is not supported by that official chart report. Rank and views are separate measures: No. 4 is the show’s position on that week’s list, while 4.2 million is Netflix’s reported view figure.
Was its opening performance disappointing?
One independent comparison helps explain why some coverage called the launch a flop, but that is an outlet’s judgment rather than Netflix’s label. What’s on Netflix reported 4.2 million views for the opening four days and placed Vladimir fifteenth among 17 limited-series titles in its selected comparison table. The examples it listed included The Beast in Me with 6.9 million opening-week views, The Residence with 6.4 million, and A Man in Full with 6.3 million. These are the outlet’s comparisons—not a comprehensive benchmark for all Netflix shows or a like-for-like measure of every title’s launch window. What’s on Netflix’s launch analysis gives its figures and comparison.

Were reviews for Vladimir actually bad?
The available snapshots do not support saying that critics broadly panned the show. What’s on Netflix characterized critics’ reviews as generally OK. Separate ratings snapshots differ because they measure different groups and were recorded on different dates:
| Measure | Reported result | What the snapshot represents |
|---|---|---|
| Rotten Tomatoes audience score | 58% on March 11, 2026 | GamesRadar+ reported this audience-score snapshot; it is not a critics’ score and may have changed since. |
| Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score | 74% from 54 reviews, recorded March 22, 2026 | A secondary reference page’s dated snapshot citing Rotten Tomatoes. |
| Metacritic | 66/100 from 24 critics, recorded March 14, 2026 | A secondary reference page’s dated snapshot; Metacritic labeled it “generally favorable.” |
GamesRadar+ reported the March 11 audience score. The critic and Metacritic figures above come from a secondary reference page that records its retrieval dates. Aggregator ratings can move as reviews and ratings are added, so these figures should be read as historical snapshots rather than current scores.

Is Netflix’s Vladimir based on a book?
Yes. Netflix describes the series as an adaptation of Julia May Jonas’s debut novel, also titled Vladimir. The book is the source material, not a guarantee that the screen version follows it identically. Netflix’s series article identifies the novel and its author.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is the series about?
Netflix describes Weisz’s character as a reckless professor anxious about becoming obsolete and coping with the fallout from her husband’s past scandals. She becomes dangerously fixated on a younger colleague, Vladimir, played by Leo Woodall; John Slattery plays her husband. The premise combines professional insecurity, marital trouble and an increasingly intense fixation, which Netflix classifies as a dark dramedy rather than simply a thriller.
