CBS identifies the premiere as Season 2, Episode 1, “The Funky Bunch,” and its official synopsis says the episode reveals Lala’s fate. The survival and recovery details are described in Adam Holmes’s contemporaneous CinemaBlend recap.
Why do Lala and Gibbs clash?
Lala’s return does not immediately restore the pair’s easy working relationship. Gibbs worries she is taking risks while still recovering; Lala believes his protectiveness is getting in the way of her doing her job. The recap says they reach an understanding by the end of the episode, but it does not establish how their relationship will develop later in the season.

Where does their relationship stand?
The recap reports that Lala has moved on from her romantic interest in Gibbs. In a conversation with Mary Jo, she describes him as “too complicated.” Gibbs is dating Diane, who later becomes his second wife. These are the characters’ circumstances in the premiere as recounted by CinemaBlend, not a promise about future developments.
The recap also raises the question of why Lala does not tell Gibbs about her earlier role in persuading Lara Macy to drop an investigation connected to him. It presents that as an unresolved question, not an explanation provided by the premiere.

While Lala returns to duty, Gibbs and Mike Franks investigate the disappearance of a young Marine. CBS’s synopsis says the case connects to a mysterious compound and a charismatic leader. The official listing gives the episode’s air date as October 14, 2025, and its runtime as 43 minutes.
NCIS: Origins follows a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the early 1990s, before the events of NCIS, with Mark Harmon narrating. CBS describes Season 2 as revealing what happened to Lala after the previous season’s crash. See the official episode listing and the CBS series page for the show description and streaming information.
