According to Rolling Stone critic Andre Gee, yes: Kendrick Lamar’s “Euphoria” succeeds through its shifting vocal delivery, layered wordplay, humor and pointed attacks. Gee’s May 1, 2024 review judged the diss track on its craft and immediate effect in the feud with Drake—not as proof of its lyrical allegations or a final verdict on the feud.
What Gee’s review says “Euphoria” accomplishes
Gee’s central argument is that Lamar gave forceful form to criticisms of Drake that were already circulating among listeners. In Gee’s reading, the track makes those perceptions feel newly sharp through the way Lamar performs and arranges them. That is the critic’s interpretation, not evidence of measured audience consensus.

The song arrived April 30, 2024, as a response to Drake during their highly publicized feud. Gee published his review the following day, when the exchange was still unfolding. His assessment is therefore about what “Euphoria” did at that moment, not a retrospective judgment of how the entire feud ended.
Why Gee finds the performance effective
Shifting flows and inflections
Gee points to Lamar’s changing flows and vocal inflections as a major part of the track’s impact. Rather than relying on one delivery throughout, Lamar changes how he sounds as the song develops, giving its attacks shifts in tone and emphasis.
#1 Best Overall
Wordplay, menace and humor
The review also highlights double meanings, ominous warnings and slapstick humor. Gee sees the contrast as part of the song’s force: the humor can make the insults feel cutting, while the darker passages maintain a sense of threat. The effect depends not just on what Lamar says, but on how the lines move between tones.
Identity and the line between attack and restraint
Gee reads “Euphoria” as a clash over authenticity and public persona. In his interpretation, Lamar challenges the way Drake presents himself while setting that against Lamar’s own presentation of personal experience. These are readings of the song’s rhetoric, not independent findings about either artist.
Rank #2
The track’s personal shots also sit alongside lines Gee interprets as signaling that the exchange need not become even more personal. That tension matters to his assessment: the song escalates the feud while gesturing toward a boundary. The lyrics remain adversarial, so their claims about Drake’s conduct, identity, career or family should be understood as allegations made in a diss track, not established facts.

Gee makes a case for why “Euphoria” works as a response: the performance varies, the writing carries double meanings, and humor sharpens the attacks. But a critic’s evaluation does not establish that every listener agreed, verify the song’s accusations or determine an objective winner. The review is best read as an argument about the track’s craft and immediate function in the feud.
