A later account described a split, a brief reconnection, and a final breakup in 2016—but the early report relied on an unnamed source, and neither cited account provides a detailed first-person explanation from the actors. The evidence supports a reported relationship, not a fully documented “on-and-off” saga.
What was reported about Jesse Lee Soffer and Sophia Bush?
In August 2014, E! News reported that an unnamed source said Bush and Soffer had been dating for more than three months. The article did not include direct confirmation from either actor, so the dating claim should be understood as entertainment reporting attributed to a source, rather than a public statement by the couple.

A June 2015 Just Jared report, also attributed to a source, said they had split after dating for about a year and remained friends. A later Us Weekly dating-history account placed a split in July 2015, reported a brief reconnection in September, and said the relationship finally ended in 2016. These accounts offer a timeline, but no detailed first-person explanation of what happened between the actors.
Was their relationship really “on-and-off”?
The later timeline reports one brief reconnection after the 2015 split. That supports describing the relationship as having a reported separation and reunion, but the cited coverage does not establish a repeated cycle of breakups and reconciliations. It also does not explain why the relationship ended, so claims about a private cause or conflict would go beyond what these reports establish.

How their real-life reports differ from the show’s romance
Bush and Soffer played Erin Lindsay and Jay Halstead on Chicago P.D., where their characters had a romantic storyline. In an interview about the show, Bush said of the characters, “There’s been chemistry from the beginning.” She was speaking about the fictional couple’s development—not confirming or describing her personal relationship with Soffer.
Keeping those two stories separate matters: the show’s scripted romance is directly discussed in the interview, while the actors’ reported relationship is described in entertainment coverage attributed to sources.
