Ivanka Trump reportedly became tearful during a disagreement with her father, Donald Trump, about how he should apologize for the Access Hollywood tape—not when the recording was first released. The account appeared in 2017 reporting that attributed the details to The New York Times; it was not firsthand confirmation from Ivanka.
What was reported about Ivanka Trump’s reaction?
A May 2, 2017, report by The Daily Beast said Ivanka’s eyes welled with tears, her face reddened, and she hurried out in frustration after Donald Trump resisted her urging for a fuller apology. The Daily Beast attributed those details to a New York Times account and described her as making an emphatic case for a “full-throated apology.”

The account describes a private conversation about her father’s response to the recording. It does not say she cried when she first watched the tape or at the moment it became public.
When was the tape recorded and released?
The recording was made in 2005. The Washington Post released it publicly in October 2016, according to Redbook’s May 3, 2017, account. The report about Ivanka’s reaction came months after that public release.

How well is the story confirmed?
The Daily Beast’s article is a secondary report that attributes the emotional details to The New York Times. Redbook repeated the account the following day, but neither accessible article offers firsthand verification from Ivanka Trump. No independently verifiable statement from her about this specific conversation is established by these reports.
Accordingly, the careful answer is that Ivanka Trump was reported to have cried during an argument over her father’s response to the tape. The reporting supports that as an account of what was said in 2017, not as an independently confirmed description of the private exchange.
