The available coverage documents speculation about Halsey and MGK, not an established dating history. A retrospective Us Weekly feature says the pair never publicly commented on their relationship; Capital XTRA’s 2022 retrospective says Halsey denied that they dated. Those accounts do not provide an on-record confirmation of a romance from either artist. Us Weekly’s July 2018 report and Capital XTRA’s retrospective should be read as reporting about the rumor and its denials, not proof that the two dated.

That distinction matters: being seen together, being described as close, or collaborating on a song can establish contact, friendship, or a working relationship without establishing romance.
How the rumors developed
2016: They reportedly met on a television set
A later Us Weekly dating-history feature says Halsey and MGK met on the set of Roadies in 2016 and were later spotted cozying up. March 2017: Reports linked them, but the accounts are not confirmation
Capital XTRA’s retrospective says the musicians were linked in March 2017 and reports that Halsey denied they had dated. It also summarizes a later claim that MGK said the two had become close at one point. These are reports about what was said; they do not establish a romantic relationship.
Us Weekly also recalls a remark MGK made in a 2017 Rolling Stone interview: “What I will say is I feel 16 again.” In the account available here, he did not name Halsey in that remark. It is therefore not evidence that he was confirming a relationship with her.

June and July 2018: A nightclub sighting prompted rebound speculation
Us Weekly reported that Halsey and MGK were photographed outside Poppy nightclub on June 28, days before Halsey announced her split from G-Eazy. The sighting became part of a post-split rebound story, but a photograph of them together does not prove they were dating.
In its July 5, 2018 report, Us Weekly quoted an unnamed source: “Halsey and Machine Gun Kelly are just friends. She definitely isn’t rebounding with him.” That statement is attributed to the outlet’s source—not to Halsey or MGK directly—and counters the rebound claim without resolving every aspect of their private history. Halsey and MGK worked together on “Forget Me Too.” Alternative Press reported MGK’s account that Halsey came to the studio quickly and quoted her describing their friendship as longstanding: “I know it may seem impossible that we haven’t already done a song together, because we have been friends since the dawn of time.” Alternative Press’s report on the collaboration
The song and Halsey’s comment support that they were friends and collaborators. They do not settle whether they had a romance at another time.

So, did Halsey and MGK date?
The careful answer is that they were linked by dating rumors, but the public sources cited here do not confirm that they dated. The reporting offers a sighting, attributed comments, retrospective summaries, and evidence of friendship and collaboration; none amounts to an on-record confirmation of a romance.
