Elon Musk was reported to have said that at least half of his tweets were written on the toilet, and later described tweeting there as part of his stream-of-consciousness style. Those remarks are an anecdote, not evidence of a gastrointestinal condition; the headline’s “grave concerns” is comic exaggeration.
What did Musk say about tweeting on the toilet?
Futurism reported that Musk posted in November 2021: “At least 50 percent of my tweets were made on a porcelain throne.” The wording is attributed to Musk by Futurism; the original post was not directly retrieved for this account. Futurism’s January 18, 2025 article recounts the post.
Futurism also reported that, in an interview in April 2022, Musk said, “I’m tweeting more or less stream of consciousness,” and added, “I’m literally on the toilet or something.” Engadget’s April 15, 2022 coverage identifies the setting as Musk’s TED appearance during his bid to acquire Twitter, and likewise characterizes his comments as saying he sometimes composed tweets on the toilet. Engadget’s coverage provides that interview context. The full interview transcript was not directly retrieved, so these are remarks as reported by the outlets rather than independently checked against a transcript.
Do the remarks indicate a gastrointestinal problem?
No. Saying that he sometimes tweeted while on the toilet does not establish that Musk has a gastrointestinal disorder, nor does the cited reporting offer a diagnosis or medical evidence. The headline’s “grave concerns” is a joke built around his reported anecdote, not a health finding. Futurism’s health-themed framing is humorous commentary, not clinical reporting.

What should readers make of the posting-volume claims?
Futurism’s article also mentions an estimate of more than 67 tweets per day and calculates time spent posting. The text reviewed does not name the underlying analysis or provide a clearly verifiable method, so those figures should not be treated as established measurements or repeated as settled facts.
