A news report says he discussed the object on the Joe Rogan podcast and quotes him talking about what he would do if he had evidence of aliens. That is not the same as identifying 3I/ATLAS as a spacecraft. The exact wording in the full interview remains unverified because a complete primary recording or transcript was not located.
What Musk was reported to have said
International Business Times UK reported that Musk discussed 3I/ATLAS during an appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast. The report attributes this statement to him: “One thing I can say is, if I was aware of any evidence of aliens, Joe you have my word that I will come on your show and reveal it.” It then quotes him saying, “I keep my promises.” (International Business Times UK)
That reported remark is about whether Musk would disclose evidence of aliens. It does not say that 3I/ATLAS is an alien craft. The report also says he discussed nickel-rich asteroids and comets and referred to conspiracy claims about an alien ship, but those details do not establish that he applied that description to 3I/ATLAS.
This is secondary reporting, not a verified transcript. The full interview or a complete transcript was not available in the sources reviewed, so the report should not be treated as a complete record of the conversation.

How NASA and ESA describe 3I/ATLAS
NASA identifies 3I/ATLAS as an interstellar comet. Its 3I/ATLAS facts and FAQ page says the NASA-funded ATLAS survey telescope in Chile first reported observations to the Minor Planet Center on July 1, 2025. NASA also provides a comet overview describing the object.
The European Space Agency likewise describes 3I/ATLAS as a comet in its FAQ. ESA notes that it is not considered a near-Earth object because of its distance from Earth.

The Associated Press reported NASA Associate Administrator Amit Kshatriya saying, “but 3I/Atlas is a comet.” That is a quotation attributed to Kshatriya by AP, rather than a direct NASA transcript. (Associated Press)
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What this fact check can and cannot establish
- Supported: A secondary news report says Musk discussed 3I/ATLAS on the Joe Rogan podcast and attributes to him a statement about revealing evidence of aliens.
- Not supported by that report: That Musk called 3I/ATLAS an alien ship.
- Not settled by the available record: Musk’s exact wording and full context in the interview, because a complete primary recording or transcript was not located.
- Official classification: NASA and ESA describe 3I/ATLAS as a comet.
Accordingly, the claim that Musk called 3I/ATLAS an alien ship is unsupported by the sources reviewed—not disproved by a complete transcript. A direct recording or full transcript would be needed to verify the precise wording and context.
