In June 2009, WWE announced a storyline presenting Trump as Raw’s new owner; USA Network later clarified that the announced sale was part of the storyline, not a real transaction.
What WWE announced in June 2009
WWE’s announcement cast Trump as the supposed new owner of Raw and said he would appear on the next episode. It promoted a live, commercial-free broadcast as his first act in charge. WWE’s archived page for the June 15 episode continued the dramatic framing of the purported sale. WWE’s June 15, 2009 Raw archive records that on-screen presentation.
The announcement used language that could sound like a business deal when read out of context. Vince McMahon was quoted saying, “This was an offer I couldn’t refuse.” Trump, in turn, was quoted describing Raw as a top cable franchise. Those statements appear in WWE’s announcement as part of the promotion for the angle; they do not establish an actual transfer of ownership. WWE’s June 2009 announcement
Why the “sale” was not real
The clearest distinction came from USA Network. A contemporaneous report quoted the network clarifying that the announced sale was a storyline, not an actual transaction. That clarification means WWE’s presentation of Trump as owner should be understood as a television plot, not a corporate deal. Contemporaneous report quoting USA Network

WWE’s corporate filings describe a business involving content production and distribution, rights agreements, live events, and licensed merchandise. A later filing says Netflix would become Raw’s exclusive new home in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Latin America beginning in January 2025, with other regions added over time. That is a distribution arrangement—where the program is shown—not a sale of Raw to Trump or a transfer of WWE ownership. WWE filing describing its business; WWE filing on the Netflix arrangement

- In 1995, two wrestling companies squared off on Monday night television to compete head to head in an unprecedented confrontation. On one side, Vince McMahon, the promoter who created WWE and made the industry what it is today. On the other, WCW, owned by media giant Ted Turner, and run by an ambitious man named Eric Bischoff. This is the whole story, told by those who created it, lived it, and
The filing does not establish current Raw availability in every country. Local distribution can vary, so the 2025 deal’s stated territories should not be taken as confirmation of where the show can be watched now.
