The available evidence does not show that David Hyde Pierce made almost as much as Kelsey Grammer in Frasier royalties. A claim that Pierce earned more than $40 million from reruns appears to confuse his estimated overall net worth with documented show royalties. Historical reports compare the actors’ salaries, and Grammer once said he had a share of syndication, but the sources do not provide comparable lifetime royalty totals for either actor.
Where the $40 million claim comes from
A 2024 article says Pierce accumulated more than $40 million in rerun royalties, but the figure it cites is an estimate of his overall net worth—not a record of royalties from Frasier. Net worth estimates concern a person’s overall assets and liabilities; they do not establish how much that person earned from one show or income stream. The same article cites an estimated net worth for Grammer, which likewise cannot establish or compare either actor’s Frasier royalties. Source

What the salary reports say
Published figures for the final seasons are reports about per-episode pay, not later syndication payments. They also come from different publications and dates, so they should be read as historical reporting rather than audited contract records.
| Actor and period | Reported figure | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Kelsey Grammer, final two seasons | More than $1.6 million per episode for 48 episodes, according to a 2001 Seattle Post-Intelligencer report citing Daily Variety and unnamed industry sources. | Reported salary arrangement. The report also said his pay could increase through an advance on his syndication share; it did not state his eventual royalty total. Source |
| David Hyde Pierce, seasons 10 and 11 | About $750,000 per episode in season 10 and $1 million in season 11, as summarized by Parade in 2026. | Reported salary estimates, not residual or royalty figures. Parade notes that Grammer has never publicly stated his total Frasier earnings and describes a broader total-earnings estimate as an assumption. Source |
| Pierce and Grammer, period reporting | The Guardian reported Pierce at £700,000 per show and Grammer at just over £1 million per episode in 2002. | Historical pay reporting; not a statement of either actor’s royalty total. Source |
A 2001 Independent report also described Grammer’s deal as above $1.6 million per episode and said he could earn syndication royalties. It said Pierce was believed to be renegotiating, but did not establish the terms of his later deal or royalty participation. Source

What is known about Grammer’s syndication share
In a 1994 Washington Post profile, Grammer described his participation this way: “I have a piece and I’m conspiring to get a bigger piece as time goes on.” That supports that he said he held a share at the time; it does not disclose the share’s value, what he later received, or Pierce’s arrangement. Source
The 2001 Seattle Post-Intelligencer report’s mention of a possible advance on Grammer’s syndication revenues is also a description of a reported contract arrangement, not an accounting of royalties ultimately paid. Source

Why show revenue figures cannot answer the question
A 2005 Los Angeles Times report on litigation over Frasier profit participation said talent agencies alleged that Paramount reported more than $1.5 billion in gross revenues, including almost $830 million in NBC licensing fees. Those were allegations made in the lawsuit, not findings of net profit. They also do not show what either actor was contractually owed or actually paid. Source
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What can—and cannot—be concluded
- Salary: Historical reports put Grammer’s reported per-episode pay above Pierce’s in the cited final-season comparisons.
- Contractual syndication participation: Grammer said in 1994 that he had a share. The cited sources do not establish Pierce’s comparable terms.
- Royalties actually paid: The sources provide no verified, comparable annual or lifetime Frasier royalty total for Pierce and Grammer.
- Net worth: An estimate of a person’s total wealth is not evidence of that person’s royalties from a particular program.
Accordingly, the claim that Pierce made almost as much as Grammer in Frasier royalties is unsubstantiated by these reports. They support a comparison of reported salaries and limited statements about syndication participation—not a ranking of the actors’ lifetime royalty income.
