The available interviews do not support the claim that Chlöe Bailey had a strained relationship with her parents. Instead, the sisters described their parents as supportive and their own bond as exceptionally close. The change Halle Bailey has spoken about was different: filming The Little Mermaid took her to London for an extended period, away from Chlöe, and later she moved into her first solo apartment nearby.
What the interviews say about the Bailey parents
The premise that Chlöe’s relationship with her parents was strained is not established by the interviews cited here. In a 2018 TIME interview, the sisters described their parents as part of their support system. Chlöe said, “Sometimes it’s been hard for us to believe in ourselves, but we have such a great support system in our parents and Beyoncé, who’s always letting us know to trust our art and our instincts.” (TIME, 2018)

Halle also recalled that their parents decided to move the family to Los Angeles to support the sisters’ ambitions in music. That history does not prove every detail of a private family relationship, but it differs from the claim of a documented parental rift. The interviews discussed here do not connect a conflict with their parents to Halle’s life or career.
How filming The Little Mermaid changed the sisters’ day-to-day lives
Halle filmed the live-action The Little Mermaid in London in 2021, while Chlöe stayed in the United States and continued working. British Vogue reported that Halle spent about a year and a half away from her family. Halle described the emotional adjustment in a 2023 interview: “Chlöe is like my mom. Venturing out on my own was scary, but because of the movie I had to be in London and Chlöe had to be home, working.” (British Vogue, 2023)

Chlöe described the separation from her perspective in a 2023 Cosmopolitan interview: “We both had separation anxiety when she traveled to London to film The Little Mermaid.” (Cosmopolitan, 2023) Their accounts establish that the distance was hard for both sisters; they do not attribute it to parental conflict.
Why their closeness matters to the story
Halle’s description of Chlöe as “like my mom” expresses the importance of her sister’s support during a daunting period away from home. Chlöe, in turn, called Halle her other half in the Cosmopolitan interview. Halle has also described Chlöe as protective, saying in a 2023 interview with Glamour that her sister was “very protective, immediately standing up for me if somebody does or says something negative.” (Glamour, 2023)

These are the sisters’ own descriptions of their bond, not proof of every aspect of their family life. They do, however, point to a close relationship between Halle and Chlöe rather than an estrangement that changed Halle’s life.
Halle’s move toward independent living
After returning to Los Angeles, Halle moved into her first apartment. Glamour reported that it was in the same building as Chlöe’s, so the sisters had separate homes while remaining close by. (Glamour, 2023) Halle’s account to British Vogue frames going out on her own as scary, while the move itself marks a step toward independence. The reporting links this change to Halle’s life after the London filming period—not to a strained relationship between Chlöe and their parents.

The Little Mermaid’s role—and what it does not show
The film is central to the documented change: it brought Halle to London for work and kept the sisters apart while Chlöe remained home working. The available interviews do not show that the production exposed, caused, or resolved a dispute between Chlöe and their parents. The Guardian’s 2023 interview with Halle provides additional film context, including her recollection of receiving Disney merchandise such as Ariel dolls, but it does not substantiate the family-conflict claim.
