No—Bobby Nash did not leave 9-1-1 after Season 7. The finale ended with his future at the 118 uncertain, but Peter Krause returned as Bobby in Season 8. Bobby’s actual exit came later, in Season 8, Episode 15, “Lab Rats,” when he died saving Chimney. Showrunner Tim Minear said the death was a creative decision, not the result of Krause asking to leave.
Why Bobby’s future looked uncertain after Season 7
Before the Season 7 finale, Bobby had resigned from the 118. He survived cardiac arrest and woke from a coma hoping to return, but Vincent Gerrard had already come back to the station. That left Bobby’s position—and the captaincy—in question, not his status on the series.
In a May 30, 2024 interview with TheWrap, Krause joked about the resignation: “I did resign, but I didn’t think necessarily that the paperwork went through.” He also said he was unsure how the captaincy would play out, while expecting Bobby to prevail. Those comments reflected the cliffhanger facing the character; they were not an announcement that Krause was leaving.
Peter Krause returned as Bobby in Season 8
ABC’s 2024 Season 8 lead sheet listed Krause as Bobby Nash and announced the season premiere for September 26, 2024. The official cast listing confirms that Season 7 was not his exit.

When Bobby Nash actually left the show
Bobby died in Season 8, Episode 15, “Lab Rats.” After securing a life-saving dose for Chimney in a contaminated lab, Bobby chose to remain behind. He said goodbye to Athena and died, making this the character’s actual exit from the series.
In an April 18, 2025 interview with ABC News/Good Morning America, Krause described Bobby as willing to sacrifice himself so others could live, adding: “And I will miss everybody dearly.” He said the show had been his workplace “for eight years, eight seasons.”

Why the show killed Bobby
Showrunner Tim Minear told TheWrap that Krause had not asked to leave. “This was entirely a creative decision. It’s not like Peter came to me and was like, ‘I’m ready to go.’ That’s not at all what happened.” Minear’s explanation distinguishes the story choice from an actor-initiated departure.

A CinemaBlend report published August 21, 2026 says 9-1-1 is preparing for its tenth season without Krause as a regular cast member and that he is set to star in NBC’s Line of Fire. That is a dated secondary report about his current work; it does not confirm or rule out a future guest appearance or other return.
