Dickey Betts’ last known live performance was at the Peach Music Festival in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on July 22, 2018. A circulating clip shows him performing “Ramblin’ Man” with his band. It is a different event from the official St. George Theatre recording made the day before.
Where to watch Betts perform “Ramblin’ Man” in 2018
The clip associated with Betts’ final known live appearance comes from the Peach Music Festival in Scranton. Wide Open Country’s 2024 retrospective identifies the July 22, 2018, performance and includes the circulating “Ramblin’ Man” footage. The Macon Telegraph later described the Scranton appearance as his last known live performance.
“Last known” matters: those accounts identify the latest performance established by the cited reporting, rather than proving that every appearance has been documented. The available reports also do not establish from a primary setlist or complete recording whether “Ramblin’ Man” was the final song of the entire festival set.
Is the St. George Theatre video the same performance?
No. The official St. George Theatre recording is a separate performance, recorded on July 21, 2018, at the historic theatre in Staten Island, New York City—one day before the Peach Festival appearance. The official Dickey Betts discography lists the recording as Ramblin’ Man: Live at The St. George Theatre. Its track list places “Ramblin’ Man” at number nine, followed by “Jessica.”

The St. George show was released by BMG on July 26, 2019, as an audio/video package. It is an official release of a different concert, not the Peach Festival clip. That makes it the clearer option for watching an officially released performance, while the Peach footage is the one tied to Betts’ last known live appearance.
Why “Ramblin’ Man” became a regular request
Betts wrote “Ramblin’ Man,” which became one of his signature songs. In a 2019 Guitar World release-premiere article, he recalled: “When I first wrote this song, I didn’t think much of it. When I played it for the band they insisted we record it. Now, it seems it’s the one song I have to play every night!” The St. George set’s inclusion of the song reflects its place in his live repertoire; it does not make that recording his final concert.
