Spoilers for Dexter: Resurrection Season 1, Episodes 6–7, and Dexter Season 1. In “Cats & Mouse,” Dexter thinks he has killed Gareth, the man identified as the Gemini Killer—until another man arrives and is identified as the second Gemini Killer. The reversal turns the apparent one-man identity into a twin pairing. It recalls the original series’ Ice Truck Killer reveal, but the two surprises work differently: one answers who the killer is; the other overturns Dexter’s belief that his kill is complete.
What was the Gemini Killer twist in Dexter: Resurrection?
“Cats & Mouse,” Season 1, Episode 6, ends with Dexter believing he has killed Gareth. After Leon Prater summons him to a helipad, a second man arrives and is recognized as the Gemini Killer. Dexter realizes that Gareth has a twin: the Gemini Killer is two brothers, not one person. TVLine’s episode recap and TV Insider’s recap both describe the cliffhanger as a twin reveal.
The episode’s setup makes the reversal immediate. TVLine reports that Dexter follows Gareth, poisons him with a gin and tonic, and kills him. TV Insider adds that Gareth’s narcissism helps Dexter lure him to the kill table. The second brother’s arrival means Dexter has not finished dealing with the threat, while Angel Batista is also closing in.
How does it compare with the Ice Truck Killer reveal?
| Comparison | Ice Truck Killer reveal | Gemini Killer twist |
|---|---|---|
| What changes | The killer’s identity is revealed. | The apparent single killer is revealed to be a pair of twin brothers. |
| How the surprise works | An identity answer reframes the first season’s mystery. | A second arrival overturns Dexter’s belief that he has just completed the kill. |
| Immediate consequence | The first-season reveal resolves the identity question. | The surviving brother becomes a direct problem for Dexter in the next episode. |
Showrunner Clyde Phillips described the original first-season moment as “a big reveal at the end of the first season about the identity of ‘The Ice Truck Killer.’” His description, in a Television Academy interview, captures the key distinction: the Ice Truck Killer twist answers a who-is-it question, while the Gemini cliffhanger makes Dexter—and the viewer—reconsider whether the apparent kill was enough.

What happens to the twin in Episode 7?
The next episode, “Course Correction,” follows through on the cliffhanger rather than stretching the twin’s identity into a season-long puzzle. TV Insider’s Episode 7 recap reports that Dexter tells Gareth he knows about the twin and killed his brother, then kills Gareth. Dexter also uses the confrontation to blame Gareth for other disappearances and threats.
Does the Gemini twist really rival the original reveal?
It can rival the Ice Truck Killer reveal as a sharply staged surprise, but that is an interpretation, not an established ranking. The older twist supplies the answer to the first season’s central identity question. The newer one delivers a compact reversal—Dexter thinks the job is done, then learns there is another brother—and quickly turns that discovery into a confrontation.

There is no creator comparison, audience survey, or reliable statistic in the available reporting that establishes which reveal is more shocking, better, or more popular. The fairest comparison is about their different effects: a mystery-ending identity reveal versus a late reversal that expands one killer into two.
