What was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024?
Showtime announced Dexter: Resurrection on July 26, 2024, during the Dexter: Original Sin panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Hall made a surprise appearance with executive producer and showrunner Clyde Phillips. The announcement described Resurrection as a present-day series starring Hall as Dexter Morgan. At the same event, Hall was also identified as the narrator of young Dexter’s inner voice in the separate 1990s prequel Original Sin. The initial announcement projected a summer 2025 launch for Resurrection, but Paramount’s current materials list its first season as streaming and set a date for season two. Paramount’s SDCC announcement quoted then-Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios chief Chris McCarthy saying Hall would reprise “his iconic role as Dexter Morgan.”

Is Michael C. Hall returning as Dexter?
Yes. Hall returns as Dexter Morgan. The story begins weeks after Dexter is shot in the chest by his son Harrison. Dexter wakes from a coma, discovers Harrison is gone, and heads to New York City in an effort to make things right with him as Dexter’s past resurfaces. Paramount+’s series page describes that premise.
How does Resurrection fit into the Dexter timeline?
Resurrection is a sequel to New Blood, not a remake or a prequel. Paramount describes New Blood as a limited series set a decade after the original Dexter, and says Resurrection begins weeks after New Blood’s finale. Original Sin, by contrast, is a prequel set in the early 1990s. The following order is a practical chronology for viewers catching up on the continuing story; placing the prequel afterward is optional, since it is a separate story set earlier in Dexter’s life.
