The headline’s claim that Dexter: Resurrection brings back the “real Bay Harbor Butcher” while breaking Dexter lore cannot be confirmed from the available episode details. Without the specific scene and the original article’s argument, it would be misleading to name a continuity error or call it a retcon. Here is what is established about the series—and what remains unverified.
What does the “real Bay Harbor Butcher” claim mean?
It is an interpretation of Dexter: Resurrection, not a verified statement of what the series reveals. The headline suggests that the show revisits who deserves the Bay Harbor Butcher label and, in doing so, conflicts with an established piece of Dexter lore. But the specific scene and disputed detail have not been identified here, so the claim cannot responsibly be treated as canon or as a confirmed continuity mistake.

To judge the claim, a reader needs to compare three things: what the original series explicitly established, what the relevant Resurrection scene actually shows or says, and whether the difference is a new reveal, a character’s incomplete understanding, or a genuine retcon. Without that scene, choosing among those explanations would be speculation.

- It does not establish who the “real Bay Harbor Butcher” is.
- It does not establish which piece of Dexter lore is allegedly contradicted.
- It does not establish whether the difference is a retcon, a revelation, or a character’s mistaken or incomplete conclusion.
Until the episode moment and the argument behind the headline are available, the accurate answer to “What did Resurrection get wrong?” is that no specific error has been verified.
