In Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Part 1, Shinobu Kocho, Akaza, and Kaigaku die. Tanjiro and Giyu survive their immediate fight with Akaza but collapse afterward; the film does not settle their later fates. Doma is still alive when the movie ends, with Kanao continuing the confrontation. The completed manga goes further than this first film.
Who dies in the first Infinity Castle film?
The movie is Part 1 of a planned theatrical trilogy adapting the manga’s final arc, so its ending is not the end of the story. The first installment sends the Demon Slayer Corps into Muzan’s stronghold and begins the final battle. Aniplex’s official Japanese film listing identifies this chapter as “Akaza Returns”; the official English introduction describes the Corps’ arrival in the Infinity Castle and the start of the final battle.
- Shinobu Kocho — dies. She confronts Doma, Upper Rank Two, and is killed. Kanao takes up the continuing confrontation.
- Akaza — dies. Tanjiro and Giyu defeat Upper Rank Three. Akaza’s flashback includes the earlier deaths of Keizo, Koyuki, and his father; those are past events, not additional present-day casualties of the battle.
- Kaigaku — dies. Zenitsu defeats the replacement Upper Rank Six.
These first-film outcomes are reported in a post-release explainer by GamesRadar+.
Does Tanjiro or Giyu die?
Neither is shown dying in Part 1. Tanjiro and Giyu survive their immediate battle with Akaza, then collapse. The movie leaves their condition and later story unresolved, so a viewer asking specifically what happens in the film should not treat the collapse as a confirmed death—or assume the film has shown what comes next.

Is Doma dead when the film ends?
No. Doma remains alive at the film’s ending, and Kanao is poised to continue fighting him. The closing material sets up further battles rather than resolving the fates of every character in the Infinity Castle.
What does the completed manga add?
The manga is complete, but the first film adapts only part of its final arc. Shueisha’s official volume catalog describes the Upper Rank One battle reaching its conclusion in volume 21 at great cost, followed by the final confrontation with Muzan in volumes 22 and 23. Those summaries show how much story remains after Part 1, but they are not a character-by-character survival list. This article therefore does not infer individual manga fates from a battle setup or a volume blurb.
