Their six Lower and six Upper positions did not keep the same occupants throughout the story. This guide follows the ranks and their successors, distinguishing demons killed by Muzan from those who died in battle. The anime adaptation is still underway: the official series materials describe Infinity Castle as a trilogy, so its releases do not yet cover the manga’s complete ending.
How the Twelve Demon Moons are organized
The Twelve Kizuki comprise six Lower Ranks and six Upper Ranks. A rank is a position, not a permanent roster slot: Muzan’s purge removed most of the Lower Ranks, while deaths among the Upper Ranks led to successors. Daki and Gyutaro shared Upper Six, and later demons Nakime and Kaigaku took positions previously held by Hantengu and the siblings, respectively.
The guide below covers the named rank-holders and those successors. It is not a census of every demon that may appear in supplementary franchise material.
Lower Ranks: the purge and its survivors
Muzan summoned the Lower Ranks and killed all of them except Enmu. The available account identifies who died in the purge but does not specify individual death mechanics for each demon.
#1 Best Overall
| Rank | Member | How they died | Story context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lower One | Enmu | Muzan spared him in the purge. Enmu later died during the Mugen Train conflict with Tanjiro and other Demon Slayers. | Mugen Train |
| Lower Two | Rokuro | Killed by Muzan during the Lower Rank purge. Individual death mechanics are not specified in the available account. | Lower Rank purge |
| Lower Three | Wakuraba | Killed by Muzan during the Lower Rank purge. Individual death mechanics are not specified in the available account. | Lower Rank purge |
| Lower Four | Mukago | Killed by Muzan during the Lower Rank purge. Individual death mechanics are not specified in the available account. | Lower Rank purge |
| Lower Five | Rui | Killed by Giyu Tomioka after his fight with Tanjiro. | Mount Natagumo |
| Lower Six | Kamanue | Killed by Muzan during the Lower Rank purge. Individual death mechanics are not specified in the available account. | Lower Rank purge |
Enmu survives the purge, but not the Mugen Train battle
Enmu is the sole Lower Rank Muzan spares. The official game profile identifies him as Lower One and describes him attacking Tanjiro and the other Demon Slayers aboard the Mugen Train after receiving Muzan’s blood. Enmu is later killed in that arc.
Rui dies after Tanjiro’s fight
Rui, Lower Five, is the demon on Mount Natagumo who controls his so-called family through fear. After Tanjiro fights him, Giyu Tomioka kills him.
Rank #2
Four Lower Ranks die in Muzan’s purge
Rokuro, Wakuraba, Mukago, and Kamanue are the other named Lower Ranks in the purge. The account establishes that Muzan killed them, but does not give individual causes or mechanics, so more specific descriptions would go beyond what is established here.
Upper Ranks: deaths and succession
The Upper Ranks are the more powerful half of the organization. Their roster changed as members died: Nakime took Upper Four after Hantengu, and Kaigaku took Upper Six after Daki and Gyutaro.

Upper One: Kokushibo
The official Infinity Castle character page identifies Kokushibo as Upper One. The sources cited here do not establish the specifics of his manga death, so this guide does not assign a killer or cause.
Upper Two: Doma
Doma is identified as Upper Two in the official Infinity Castle character materials. Those materials do not establish his manga death details.
Rank #4
Upper Three: Akaza
Official character materials identify Akaza as Upper Three and note his battle with Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku. Current film coverage reports that Akaza perishes in the Infinity Castle events, but the sources cited here do not support a complete explanation of his manga death.
Upper Four: Hantengu, then Nakime
Hantengu dies at Tanjiro’s hands at the end of the Swordsmith Village arc. Official Infinity Castle character materials confirm that Nakime rises to Upper Four after his death. The cited information establishes the succession, but not the circumstances of Nakime’s eventual death.

This is a manga-spoiler guide, not a promise that every death listed has appeared in released anime installments. The official series materials frame Infinity Castle as a trilogy, and adaptation coverage continues to change. In particular, the manga’s complete ending extends beyond what an announcement of the trilogy alone can establish. Check the current release and viewing order for your region before using this guide to avoid future anime spoilers.
