Manga spoilers: This ranking covers the complete Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga, not only the anime-adapted story. It compares each character at their strongest canon version. The strongest Demon Slayer characters are ranked here by demonstrated combat outcomes, opponent and battle context, individual contribution, abilities, and limits—not by an official series list. Yoriichi Tsugikuni takes the top spot; placements below him are editorial judgments, especially across different eras and factions.
How this ranking works
No official top-15 ranking across demon slayers, demons, and historical fighters appears in the official character pages reviewed. The Hashira Training Arc page identifies the Hashira as the Corps’ highest-ranking swordsmen, while Aniplex’s Infinity Castle character page describes Gyomei as regarded as the strongest among Corps members. Neither statement compares every fighter across factions and eras. [Official Hashira Training Arc character page; Aniplex Infinity Castle character page]
These are argued placements, not canon labels. The order weighs what characters accomplish, the strength and circumstances of their opponents, how much they contribute in team battles, and the reach and restrictions of their abilities. It compares peak manga versions, including historical and temporary transformations; it does not assume that a title such as Hashira or Upper Rank automatically establishes a cross-faction position.
The 15 strongest Demon Slayer characters
1. Yoriichi Tsugikuni
Yoriichi is the clearest choice for first overall. His place at the top reflects the extraordinary gap between his abilities and those of other swordsmen, including his confrontation with Muzan. His historical peak is being compared with later characters’ strongest versions, rather than with the circumstances in which they first appeared.

2. Muzan Kibutsuji
The progenitor of demons is the most formidable overall threat among the series’ active antagonists. His range of attacks and demonic resilience make him exceptionally difficult to overcome. His placement below Yoriichi rests on their direct historical comparison; the gap between Muzan and the characters below him is not a simple matter of titles or one-on-one rankings.
3. Kokushibo
Kokushibo combines the discipline and sword skill of a former swordsman with the power and regenerative advantages of a demon. He ranks ahead of the endgame slayers because his battle demands the combined effort of exceptionally capable opponents. That group result matters, but it does not make every participant individually stronger than him.
4. Gyomei Himejima
Gyomei is the strongest among the Corps according to Aniplex’s official Infinity Castle character page—a statement about the Demon Slayer Corps, not a claim that he outranks every demon or historical fighter. His combat ability and crucial contribution against Kokushibo support his position as the highest-ranked living Corps member here. [Aniplex Infinity Castle character page]
5. Doma
Doma’s Upper Rank standing and dangerous abilities make him one of the most powerful demons. His defeat depends on a specific, costly plan and the contributions of multiple slayers. Ranking him below Gyomei is an editorial comparison across a demon and a Corps fighter, not an official equivalence between their ranks.

Akaza’s combat instincts, strength, and ability to fight elite swordsmen place him among the leading demons. His fight against Tanjiro and Giyu shows how difficult he is to defeat, while its circumstances—including the opponents’ combined effort—matter when weighing the result against other characters’ feats.
Rank #2
7. Tanjiro Kamado
At his endgame peak, Tanjiro brings together substantial swordsmanship, adaptability, and abilities developed through Water Breathing and Hinokami Kagura. The official Hashira Training Arc character profile identifies those styles, but a profile is not a ranking; his placement here reflects his manga-wide development and contribution in the final battles. [Official Hashira Training Arc character page]
8. Giyu Tomioka
Giyu’s experience and technical skill let him hold his own against elite demons, including as part of the battle against Akaza. He ranks below the very top endgame fighters because his strongest showing is in a shared battle, and the outcome cannot be credited to him alone.
9. Sanemi Shinazugawa
Sanemi’s resilience and fighting ability stand out in the confrontation with Kokushibo. His performance against an Upper Rank One demon supports a high placement, while the fact that he fights alongside other powerful slayers keeps the comparison grounded in context rather than treating survival or participation as a solo victory.

10. Obanai Iguro
Obanai’s late-series combat contribution earns him a place among the strongest Corps fighters. His showing in the final battle demonstrates ability under extreme conditions, though group combat makes it difficult to compare his individual strength directly with characters whose defining fights are more isolated.
11. Muichiro Tokito
Muichiro’s rapid rise to Hashira is noted in the official character profile, and his manga performance confirms his exceptional potential. His accomplishments against formidable demons are impressive, but his age, injuries, and the assistance involved in major fights all matter when comparing him with veterans and demons. [Official Hashira Training Arc character page]
12. Mitsuri Kanroji
Mitsuri’s unusual physical gifts and sword style make her a powerful and distinctive combatant. Her efforts in the endgame battles support a place in this group, but the ranking accounts for the difference between making an important contribution and independently defeating a major opponent.
13. Kyojuro Rengoku
Rengoku’s fight against Akaza demonstrates formidable skill and resolve, even though he does not defeat the demon. The strength of his opponent and the battle’s outcome are both relevant: his performance is a strong benchmark, but it does not establish that he could overcome every fighter ranked above him.

Zenitsu’s Thunder Breathing gives him bursts of remarkable speed and striking power. The official profile identifies his breathing style, while his manga feats—especially in the final arc—justify including him among the strongest. His more specialized approach and less consistent range of options place him below the most versatile fighters. [Official Hashira Training Arc character page]
15. Inosuke Hashibira
Inosuke’s Beast Breathing, adaptability, and unusual physical awareness make him a dangerous opponent. His official profile identifies Beast Breathing; his endgame performance establishes why he belongs on this list. He ranks here because his strongest contributions are made alongside other fighters, rather than through a decisive solo win over a top-tier opponent. [Official Hashira Training Arc character page]
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Where the ranking is most debatable
Exact placements are least certain when the evidence comes from team battles, when fighters have sharply different strengths, or when a character’s peak is brief or historical. For example, a demon’s regeneration and a swordsman’s technique are not directly comparable in every matchup. Likewise, surviving a battle, landing an important blow, and securing a victory are different kinds of evidence. The ranking treats them separately rather than turning any one feat into a universal measure.
