Did De La Soul perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction?
Yes. De La Soul was named among the performers in the reported tribute to A Tribe Called Quest at the 2024 ceremony. Their appearance carries particular historical resonance: the Hall’s program essay places both groups in the Native Tongues-era transformation of New York rap and says De La Soul helped give Tribe confidence to move beyond expected rap personas. Q-Tip also contributed a verse to De La Soul’s “Buddy” in 1990. That documented connection provides context for De La Soul’s participation, but does not by itself explain how the tribute lineup was chosen.
Why A Tribe Called Quest’s music made a fitting tribute
A Tribe Called Quest entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2024 in the Performer category, with Dave Chappelle as the inducting speaker. In its profile, the Hall frames Tribe’s sound around Afrocentric themes, jazz and soul sampling, and a sense of community connected to the Native Tongues collective.
