The clip shows Lobo laughing on a motorcycle; DC later highlighted the character’s long coat, bike and comics-inspired costume.
What does Jason Momoa look like as Lobo?
The January teaser showed Momoa’s Lobo laughing astride a motorcycle. The Los Angeles Times report called it the first proper look at the character and described Gunn sharing the footage.
In a later feature, DC described Lobo as a Czarnian bounty hunter and pointed to his long coat and motorcycle. DC called the trailer costume “remarkably comics accurate”; that is the studio’s characterization of the design, rather than an independently established comparison. DC’s interview with Momoa also offers a glimpse into how he approached the role.
What Momoa said about playing Lobo
In the June 24, 2026 interview, Momoa said the costume helped shape the character’s movement: “Putting that stuff on, it’s fun because you get to change, and you get to be something different in how you move,” he said. “It’s very important. I think physicality is extremely important. You can tell everything through how we move our bodies.”

He also emphasized the character’s attitude: “You’ve got to have the swagger… It’s got to ooze through me and that suit.” These remarks came months after the January reveal, not as part of the first-look announcement.
Momoa credited director Craig Gillespie with giving him room to explore the performance. “I think Craig [Gillespie, the director of Supergirl] built a beautiful world to really let us be free, and didn’t put handcuffs on me,” he said. He added: “If it didn’t work out, he wouldn’t use it in the edit. So, they let me just go wild. And I know to stay within my means, but I definitely just start letting it roll out.”

When does Lobo appear in Supergirl?
Lobo appears in the 2026 Supergirl film, with Momoa listed in the cast. DC’s official film page credits Craig Gillespie as director and Ana Nogueira as screenwriter. The studio lists a North American theatrical date of June 26, 2026, and an international start date of June 24; local release schedules may vary.
What to read to learn about Lobo
DC recommends Lobo: Portrait of a Bastich for readers who want background on the character. It is a character-reading suggestion, not the comic source for the film: DC’s earlier film guide identifies Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as the movie’s comic basis and notes that Lobo does not appear in that comic. DC’s guide to the film makes that distinction.

Later Lobo coverage and merchandise
The January teaser was the first-look reveal, not the last official Lobo material. DC published a Momoa interview in June and a separate commentary about Lobo in the released film on September 11, 2026. The September piece contains spoilers and does not confirm future DC plans. Read DC’s September commentary only if you are comfortable with spoilers.
