What to watch on the CSNY 1974 bonus DVD
Rhino’s release documents eight restored archival video performances: Only Love Can Break Your Heart, Almost Cut My Hair, Grave Concern, Old Man, Johnny’s Garden, Our House, Déjà Vu, and Pushed It Over The End. The selection moves among acoustic and electric material, giving a sense of the quartet’s changing textures without presenting the footage as a complete concert.
The scale of the tour helps explain why this archive matters: Rhino says CSNY played 31 concerts in 24 cities in 1974, with combined audiences exceeding one million. That figure describes the tour, not the attendance at any single show or the number of viewers for the DVD.
Choose CSN 2012 for a full trio concert
CSN 2012 captures Crosby with Stills and Nash during their 2012 tour. Unlike the selected archival clips on the CSNY 1974 bonus DVD, Nash’s official discography describes this package as full concert footage, accompanied by two CDs, bonus material, and interviews with Crosby, Stills, Nash, the band, and crew. It is the clearest documented choice here for watching a full performance rather than a handful of tour excerpts.

Why Woodstock remains an important early appearance
CSNY performed at Woodstock on August 18, 1969. Dave Zimmer’s Library of Congress National Recording Registry essay calls it the group’s second-ever live gig, making it a revealing moment in the quartet’s earliest stage performances. The essay also records Crosby recalling the group’s first harmonies: “It was scary,” he said.
The performance belongs to the story of Déjà vu, released March 11, 1970. Zimmer’s essay says retailers had pre-ordered two million copies, and that the album reached No. 1 on the Billboard chart and sold more than eight million units. Those figures describe the album’s commercial history, not the availability or quality of Woodstock footage.

Check the format before choosing a Crosby release
David Crosby’s official catalog lists live or archival listening releases including Live at the Wiltern, CPR: Live at Cuesta College, and Voyage Box Set. The catalog page does not establish video content for those items, so they should not be mistaken for concert films. David Crosby’s official music catalog.
For video specifically, the distinction is straightforward: Rhino documents eight bonus-DVD performances for CSNY 1974, while Nash’s discography describes CSN 2012 as a full concert video package. Both are group performances, not solo Crosby concerts.
