Dave Grohl’s songs
Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony came before Grohl’s appearance. He then performed two Foo Fighters songs with the orchestra: “The Sky Is a Neighborhood” and “Everlong.” The song title here follows the LA Phil’s official setlist spelling.
Cynthia Erivo’s songs
Erivo followed Grohl, singing “Brick by Brick,” which the LA Phil described as her new song, and then Prince’s “Purple Rain.” Variety’s April 21, 2025, report on the performance also describes Grohl’s two-song appearance and Erivo closing the set with an original song and “Purple Rain.”

Why the performance stood out
In its retrospective, the LA Phil called the Coachella appearance the orchestra’s debut at the festival and the first full set there by a major orchestra. The Saturday performances brought a symphony orchestra into the festival’s Outdoor Theatre, with a program moving from Beethoven to Foo Fighters and Erivo’s songs.
After the performance, Dudamel told the crowd, “Maybe the best two weekends of our life, enjoying your energy, this wonderful and beautiful cultural fun environment.” ABC News reproduced the remark in its April 20, 2025, report on Erivo’s performance.
