He said he received a stent at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake St. Louis, Missouri. MLB reported the following day that he was recovering.
What happened before Strawberry’s birthday?
On March 12, 2024, Strawberry wrote on Instagram that he had survived a heart attack the previous evening. MLB quoted his post: “Praising God for His amazing grace and loving mercy in saving my life this evening from a heart attack.” He also wrote, “I am so happy and honored to report that all is well.”
MLB reported that Strawberry received a stent at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake St. Louis. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza expressed support, saying, “[We’re] praying for him, wishing him a quick recovery and hoping to see him back in a Mets uniform soon.” MLB’s March 12, 2024 report described him as recovering and included his thanks to the medical team.
What did Strawberry say about his recovery?
In a telephone interview published March 15, Strawberry told MLB he had been released from the hospital Wednesday evening. He said doctors advised him to rest, avoid travel and pause preaching for a month, and that he was wearing a monitor so doctors could follow him. He recalled that his wife urged him to go to the emergency room: “You are getting in this car and I’m driving, or the ambulance is picking you up.” He also said, “The doctor said I need to take some time off and relax.” These are details of his reported care and instructions at that time, not general medical advice.

The March 2024 coverage documents his recovery then; it does not establish his current health. MLB’s March 15 follow-up contains the dated interview.
How does the later medical emergency differ?
In February 2026, MLB reported a separate emergency at home in December 2025. Strawberry’s wife, Tracy, called 911 after finding him unresponsive following a dental procedure. According to the report, medication used for sedation affected his heart, which was already under stress after the 2024 heart attack; he received hospital care. This was a later event, not the incident that happened before his March 2024 birthday, and the report does not say the dental procedure caused that earlier heart attack.
