In the AP’s 2023 interview, Rucker reflected on being a father of three grown children as he spoke about his mother and the album Carolyn’s Boy. He said, “Now that I’m a dad, three times over with grown kids, I just wanted to pay tribute to my mom who never got to see any of this stuff, any of this success.” The AP also quoted him saying, “You never stop missing your mom.”
In comments from an interview with Taste of Country Nights relayed by American Songwriter in October 2025, Rucker said of the music business, “It’s such a hard business.
