The adult animated series begins with the two as former friends whose relationship is strained, then complicates their feelings with crushes involving Fred and Norville. Season two keeps the question alive without establishing a definitive long-term status in the cited official materials.
How Daphne and Velma’s relationship begins
Velma is an origin-story reimagining of the Scooby-Doo characters, set before the familiar group has fully come together. In this version, Daphne Blake and Velma Dinkley start out as former friends, and their relationship is strained rather than close. That setup belongs to this series; it should not be treated as a description of their relationship in every Scooby-Doo continuity.
The show approaches their dynamic as part of a serialized high-school story, where friendship, identity, and romantic confusion overlap. At a 2022 New York Comic Con panel, showrunner Charlie Grandy declined to spoil whether viewers would see sexual tension between the characters. Mindy Kaling said Velma’s self-discovery was one of the elements that drew the team to the project, as CBR reported.
The episode-two kiss is the first clear romantic turning point
Spoiler for episode two, “The Candy (Wo)man”: at the end of the episode, Daphne kisses Velma while breaking one of Velma’s hallucinations. The moment is a clear romantic signal and a major shift in their dynamic, but it does not by itself establish that they become an exclusive or settled couple. The A.V. Club’s episode coverage describes the kiss in that context.

Why the romance is complicated
Daphne and Velma’s tension sits inside a deliberately tangled teen-romance plot. Velma likes Fred, while Norville has feelings for Velma; Daphne’s kiss adds another thread rather than resolving the others. Constance Wu, who voices Daphne, said that playing crushes—and the feeling of thinking you hate someone when you do not—was fun. Grandy described the intended tone as teen drama: “We wanted the show to kind of work also on that teen drama level of just the loves and the heartbreaks.” Scripps News reported those comments in January 2023.
What season two establishes—and what it does not
The relationship remains part of the story in season two. The premiere synopsis says Velma has to untangle her feelings for Daphne and Norville, confirming continued romantic entanglement rather than a simple, settled pairing. Warner Bros. Discovery announced a ten-episode second season debuting April 25, 2024, in its official Max announcement; the Max series listing provides the premiere synopsis.

Those official season materials support the claim that Daphne and Velma’s feelings continue to matter, but they do not establish that the two end the series as a lasting couple. The supported answer is therefore: they share romantic tension and a significant kiss, and their feelings remain in play in season two; a definitive lasting relationship is not established by the cited official announcement and synopsis.
